We are writing with deep sadness regarding the recent cancellation of pianist Jayson Gillham’s concert with the MSO, following his dedication of a music composition to journalists killed in Gaza.

We value the principles of freedom of speech, artistic expression, and inclusivity. Therefore, in good conscience, we’ve made the decision to postpone next week’s shows at Hamer Hall.

This decision is incredibly disappointing as we’ve been working tirelessly to deliver an incredible show. We strongly support Jayson and the talented musicians in the orchestra, many of whom are our friends and contemporaries. They too have been put in an uncomfortable situation.

We have been assured that the MSO organisation is working to resolve the situation, and hope that we can reach a resolution. When these changes align with our beliefs as a band, we strongly hope these shows can go ahead, and we can get back to celebrating music in a free, inclusive and genuinely expressive way.

To Melbourne fans and those travelling to Melbourne next week, please stand by as we are working hard on something for you.

The Wonders of Woodford ~ Part 1 ~ Wed 27th December 2023 Travelling 1,666kms from Castlemaine to Woodford Folk Festival, the final 382 from Goondiwindi was in the eye of a massive storm! Not a good start for Australia’s premier folk festival, but after setting up camp on Boxing Day I got used to the humidity and enjoyed the familiar hustle and bustle of the tent city that appears in the beautiful valley of Woodfordia. First cab off the rank on the 27th was at 9:30am in the Pineapple Lounge, where Peace Run Records director, Andrea Kirwin was running the daily Sunny Coast Showcase. After having seen the 14-year-old Layla Havana duet with the late Uncle Archie Roach during the 2022 National Folk Festival, I was keen to catch her short set. Starting with an emotional rendition of Gurrumul’s ‘Bapa’ (Father), the lass who was unwell, performed like a seasoned trooper several original songs off her debut EP, Bright New Day.
