WKLR An all too brief adventure in Radio based in West Cork in the mid 1980s. The music was great and it was fun while it lasted.

This page relives some of the happy memories of the time. West Cork Local Radio, based in Bandon, Co. Cork in the mid 80s broadcasting to West Cork on 200 metres MW and 100FM. The music format was based on American FM Radio.

On this day 30 years ago, Mike Oldfield debuted Tubular Bells II, the long awaited follow up to his breakthrough album of 1973 and he chose to showcase it in the spectacular setting of Edinburgh Castle on a live TV event. I remember watching this on the night and being completely blown away by it. I ran out and bought the album the following day and played it to death. I still love it. Here’s the full performance. 32 years ago on this day, I became a Dad with the arrival of Bryan Michael O’Sullivan. At that time, I didn’t have a radio gig but a very well known broadcaster pal of mine during his breakfast show welcomed Son #1 into the world and dedicated this song to our family. It’s become a tradition now to play this every year on his birthday so here goes. Happy birthday Bryan 🎂

It’s occurred to me that I actually can’t abide Cher. I can’t stand her voice and her acting is atrocious. This revelation has been years in the making but it finally came to a head when I heard her deplorable version of It’s In His Kiss on t’wireless this morning. It’s not the greatest song by any means and has been covered many times since it’s original release in the 1960s by Merry Clayton and thereafter by Betty Everett but since you ask, THIS is the best version, the 1975 version from Linda Lewis.
