4:00 PM and final update.

Last change here. Timing is the same. Just tightened up the bigger two ranges to one and little less in W CT.

Don’t focus on the higher number in your zone. With a storm this massive. 18-28” zone could mean one town gets 18 and 15 miles away you get 28. It’s all about banding

Final call Snow Accumulation Map for snowstorm this Saturday:

You’re probably saying “Why did totals go up so much?”

The reason I had conservative snowfall totals yesterday was because the only weather model showing a significant snowstorm was the European, everything else was low impact. Two models showed, NOTHING at one point! So instead of buying into the “hype” as everyone always calls it, I decided to stay low and play it safe. Well, that failed me because last night and this morning, everything caved to the Euro.

Forecast:

Snow showers today. Dusting to an inch. Not associated with the actual storm.

Tonight from 10PM-2AM Snow moves in from west to east.

Heaviest is late Sat morning into Saturday late afternoon. Snowfall rates of a couple inches per hour are likely.

Starts to taper off 8PM-12AM Saturday night from west to east.

Wind Gust Forecast:

West of 91: Gusts to 45MPH
East of 91 and Shoreline: Gust to 55MPH

I’ve been glued to the radar all evening. What a historical event. I hope all of you are safe in the Northeast and hopefully no flooding at your home. Don’t go out driving! Rain will continue overnight but the good news is the heaviest rain is starting to push into eastern CT and should be out of the state in the next couple of hours. Worst of the rain is over for western half of CT. Need to keep a close eye on the rivers and streams throughout the state!

I’ll likely be doing a write up on why the forecast just didn’t pan out for CT. In short, the storm tracked a bit more east which brought much less wind to the state, this was known early this morning. But the rain forecast was a surprise to everyone. The heaviest rain set up west in NY where areas may see over 10 inches. The bottom line, be thankful we didn’t see the worst. I understand that you may have changed your plans due to the forecast but the bottom line, prepare for the worst and hope for the best. Although there were many reports in CT of trees down on houses and cars along with flooding. Overall, for many....we dodged a bullet.

Track a bit more east this morning. Should make landfall closer to Rhode Island/CT line

Changes:
1) Less wind damage in CT excluding SE CT where winds could gust to 70 mph
2) Less storm surge due to northerly wind during high tide
3) More of a rain maker for CT. Up to 7 inches, especially West of 91
