We’ve felt the summer on the inside this past weekend, as we’ve braved through the torrential rain to our friend’s stylish pop-up concept store 😍

Only could’ve made my dogmom-rain-pants-“look” still appear intentional and fashionable in pictures 🥹

Giphy was strutting in her preloved and upcycled Zara sweatshirt and looking effortlessly chic, as usual.

My dog DOES have dog friends.
Is the answer I didn’t have time to give to a person one day, as I stopped her from sending her male dog to us and interrupted our play.

“What’s wrong with you?” She asked, “don’t you want your dog to have friends?”
If she asked me a year ago I’d have agreed with her and probably crushed under the social pressure in order to avoid a conflict.

“Look at her, she clearly wants to say hi back” and she was right, my dog has excitement-based reactivity and it’s though to manage (like any reactivity) especially when I seem like the bad guy towards all parties. My dog was struggling to get in front of me to meet the dog, making this whole scene probably look like a circus.

All I could do, as quickly as possible, was to give Giphy to my partner and put myself between them and her dog. Her dog seemed genuinely nice and chill and confused as to what was going on. I don’t even think he necessarily wanted to come to us, I caught the moment where she encouraged him to come to us before we started interacting.

“Is that a male or a female?” was her first question to us. I wish she asked for permission to say hi first, as we were literally playing in our little group of 3. If anything, that part was intrusive for us humans.

We started walking away and she got off her cargo bike from 50m away and started walking towards us trying to continue the conversation after I thought I politely and clearly declined with my words and entire body language.

I kept going away and focusing on distracting Giphy, while my partner stayed behind to see what she had to say. In short this was it:
“Please don’t go away, I am a nice person. Why are you like this?
I adopted my two dogs and want to give them the best life possible. I just thought they should say hi.
I love dogs and all dogs like me.
This has happened to me before and I want to understand why.”

I wouldn’t have been as patient as my partner was that day, but I am slowly learning from that human connections are important and we should take the time for the smallest inconvenience to be polite and answer, even if we don’t agree.

PSA for anyone who didn’t know this, but if you see these in the city or anywhere else where there are bodies of water, you should try your best to avoid it.

Avoid touching it, bathing in it, drinking it, inhaling water vapors containing the bacteria through water sports, etc.

Not all blue-green algae is toxic, but there is really no way to tell them apart outside of a testing lab. And when the listed symptoms are organ damage or death, you know it’s serious.

It’s risky for both humans and dogs, so if you have a dog like mine who prefers to drink dirty puddle water instead of the fresh one I carry everyday, you should be aware of this and try to keep an eye out and stop them before they can drink at all.

The good news is it usually has a relatively short lifespan and it blooms and disappears after 2 weeks (at least that I’ve seen in the city of Copenhagen) plus the city cleaning team are usually pretty good at removing it.

It would be a bad idea to let your dog drink water just because they did it before and they were fine. Spring and summer bring warmer temperatures which makes these algae thrive more than in other seasons and start spreading the invisible toxins. The worst part is there is no known cure once the bad symptoms have set in.

My brave girl 💚

What I love about these pictures is the reminder that dogs really follow our energy and they like to be brave and prove themselves, given the right opportunity.

In picture number 2 you can see I was directing Giphy to take the safer route underneath the log. And in picture 3 that she already made up her mind she was going to jump it instead, taking my example.

It’s so sweet of her to challenge herself and this is maybe the 3rd time she stepped on such a big tree because she usually slips easily and is avoiding them, but that day she wanted it and she did it 😍

🇩🇰 Pack trip to Farum Sø for the weekend 🚶🚶‍♀️🐕

We made an amazing 17km day total and were all p**ped for the rest of the weekend. Sunday was all about lazing around and munching good food.

Giphy was powered by some & .pets during the walk and had a chicken foot from during the break ☺️
Also loads of water from her bottle which we got as a gift from her friend ☺️

I always wear “Giphy’s backpack”, or at least that’s what I call it, on long trips. It carries extra everythings, just in case of emergencies: a simple pet first aid kit, extra dog food, extra snacks for humans too, extra water, a head light, extra p**p bags.

What must-haves do you take on your adventures? We are looking for inspiration ☺️

It’s wild garlic season, my furry friends 🌱 (🇩🇰 ramsløg)

Which means, keep away from it! Just as the clove garlic, it’s toxic for dogs to consume. I’m not a vet nor a canine nutritionist, but I’ve seen online some people claiming there is a “safe” way to feed it to dogs.

Safest for us is to avoid it completely ☺️

If your dog likes munching on grass on your walks, keep an eye out. The leaves and flowers of the wild garlic looks very similar to the lilly of the valley plant (which is also toxic to humans, cats & dogs).

Stay safe out there 🫶

We try to have fun everyday ☺️

It may seem that we are doing too much for just a simple companion, but the truth is we are preparing Giphy for being a confident dog in many different circumstances for the life in the city.

We do that by raising her confidence levels and by showing her that nothing is scary and what her body is capable of.

When we got her at 8 weeks old, she was coming from the peaceful countryside and all she knew were the texture of grass (for play) and newspaper (for toilet). She took her first car ride and was super scared. Was scared of all the street noises and going in parts of our apartment. For the first month we didn’t have to worry about her leaving the carpet area because the shiny wooden floors seemed dangerous to her.

Now she’s a fierce 9 month old who has no known fear and will step on anything. This is what we’re training for - confidence.

Nothing against competitive sports, we haven’t tried any yet. This is solely about socialization skills which keep stacking up even after the 16 weeks.

With that cute face and the jackets, nobody believes me!

We use these signs so that people give us space on the streets and Giphy can learn to channel her energy onto myself and us and our own walk.

She is a very social dog and very often will want to sniff attack people or say hi to other dogs that are km away, and that is simply unpleasant for the dog culture we have in Copenhagen.

So if we ever meet on the streets, kindly ignore us or always ask first if it’s a good time to pet Giphy before going for it. I’ll let you know 😉
