Weigh-in Wednesday - 107.7 pounds down

A loss is a loss no matter how small. I’m down .2 pounds since last week and, can I tell you a secret? I’m thrilled. Yes, my weight loss is moving slower than it was before but I’m loving life and making an effort to continue to change. Here’s the July Mounjaro update:

1. Side effects - constipation only. My site injection reaction is gone again, it seems to come and go and there’s no real rhyme or reason. I continue to like my stomach as my favorite injection site, followed closely by my thigh. I finally recognized that I also have some fatigue the day after injection but it’s nothing a nap won’t cure.

2. Dosage- still on 10mg as I have been since last April. I’m going to look into upping the dosage since I would like to see my weight loss progress a little further and lowering my A1C a bit more wouldn’t hurt my feelings.

3. Workouts - everyone has been asking me about this. During the summer, life enters a very different schedule. I love taking my daughter to the pool and being out and about so the visits to the gym aren’t as focused as they are during the school year. This probably has a lot to do with my current weight loss stall. I still go the gym every other day or so. Here’s what a week normally looks like for me... Sunday: family day doing some type of activity, like the pool...Mondays and Wednesdays: strength training at the gym for 30 minutes followed by an hour of aqua aerobics...Tuesdays and Thursdays - swimming at the pool or the elliptical at the gym followed by some arms at the gym. Fridays are iffy and we oftentimes swim after work or do a family activity. Saturdays are and will always be - early wakeup with a mile long swim, coffee, and car wash. Any questions about my workouts? Let me know!

4. Cravings and food intake: no big cravings and food intake is pretty solid around 1700-1800 calories a day.

Alright, what else do you want to know?

I’m loving these Prime Day deals. Just a reminder - if you know someone with an Amazon Storefront, support them by using their link. It doesn’t cost you anything but they earn a tiny bit of commission if you use that link. You don’t even have to shop from their storefront, your purchase can help support them, just use their link to get to Amazon. I have one but lots of teachers and others have them as well so show them some love!

Transformation Tuesday

107.5 pounds lost and more things gained than I can even mention. With that said, I am so disappointed in myself for one thing - I was so embarrassed by the state of my body in the beginning that I didn’t take full body photos. I didn’t want to look in the mirror, let alone, take pictures of how big I had let my bottom half get. I became a pro at avoiding shiny surfaces so that I didn’t have to see the body that I was living in.

It took my 5 months to take a picture of myself in my swimsuit, I was already almost 50 pounds down by the point that photo was taken. Since then I’ve lost more than double that, you might not be able to see the difference, but here’s what I see some it is visible and some of it is not:

-I see someone who get her waist back
-I see some really strong calves that have slimmed down quite a bit
-I see someone who has gotten so much stronger
-I see someone who can swim a mile now when she started by treading water
-I see a decrease in back fat
-I see someone with a lot of loose skin who is embracing her life now and learning to live with it for the time being
-I see someone who showed up day and in and day out
-I see someone who fought through years of disordered eating to make sustainable changes to her diet and exercise
-I see someone who’s still working and WILL get to her goals

Transformation Tuesday - 107 pieces of advice for my 107 pounds lost for those starting their weight loss journey

JK, I don’t have enough space for 107 but here are 5

Progress over perfection means focusing on your improvements, regardless, of how small. This picture set started in May of 2023. I had already lost quite a bit of weight prior to that first photo and I was incredibly proud of how far I’d come. I didn’t and still don’t have an end in sight. What I do have is some perspective and some things I would share with anyone getting started:

1. Don’t set up an end date, it’s likely that you’ll only end up disappointed. I was convinced I’d lose 100 pounds in 10 months. I’m 18 months into the process and currently down 107 pounds. I’m still happy with my progress even though I didn’t make that date but I was devastated at the time.

2. Enjoy the process. I mentioned this in my stories but you have to live and love life during your weight loss. That means getting rid of that restriction mentality. The way that you lose weight is the way you have to live for the rest of your life.

3. This goes along with number 2 but DO NOT schedule a cheat day. There’s no such thing as cheating! Cheating means you’re doing something wrong when you enjoy the food you like. Food is fuel so use that thought in your mental script on the daily.

4. Set up rewards for yourself for every 5 pounds lost and every inch or 3 inches you lose. I like mani/pedis; clothes, a movie night, etc. Don’t use food as a reward.

5. Take advantage of all the tangibles. Get on the scale, take all the measurements, take the pictures and track it all. I promise, it will be instrumental in your success.

Transformation Tuesday

Progress over perfection every single time. There’s nothing about a weight loss journey that’s going to be perfect but it doesn’t have to be miserable either.

My process has taken time and that’s okay by me. I’d rather enjoy my life than submit myself to absolute misery while losing weight. Here’s what I do:

-Maintain a calorie deficit, around 1600-1900 calories a day
-Enjoy foods in moderation
-Swim around 3-4 miles each week
-Strength train 3-5 days a week
-Workout 6-7 days a week with mostly low intensity steady state cardio
-Put in 10k steps a day
-I take Mounjaro for type 2 and that has helped but I’ve shown up and put in the work every single day for 18 months so I’m still going to take the bulk of the credit.

What are you currently doing to meet your weight loss goals? Is it slow going for you too?

People want to talk about “Ozempic face” so let’s talk about it.

Ozempic face is completely made up! Anyone who loses a significant amount of weight will lose some of the fat in their face, specifically, their buccal fat. There are going to be some people like me who already have a very round/full face who may deal with than others.

honestly, I feel like the whole Ozempic facing is really just another opportunity for people to judge others for taking control of their health by using a GLP1. What do you think?

When I look at this picture, I don’t see Ozempic face. I see someone with healthier skin. I see someone who is happier. I see someone who has taken control of their health. I see someone who has prioritized making health and wellness their goal for the rest of their life. I’m also pretty sure I see someone who looks about five years younger.

June Update

Let’s talk side effects, plateaus, and upcoming changes.

Side effects - this one has remained pretty steady throughout the course of my time on Mounjaro. I’m still dealing with some constipation but it’s improved significantly over the past couple of months. I’ve made some intentional choices regarding my food intake and have added a lot more fiber. I’ve talked before about my injection site reaction and, for some reason, that’s not completely gone. I’m not sure why but I’m thankful for it. I did have a migraine recently but I don’t think that’s connected. What have you all been dealing with?

Plateaus - I’m still stuck in a plateau but I’m pushing hard. I know I’ve been doing an awful job with my water intake lately. I really need to up my water, especially with the hot weather coming our way. I’m setting alarms on my phone to make sure that I up my intake. I’ve also started taking rest days from the gym and I think that’s had an effect. I’ve started hitting the gym hard again and focusing on increasing my swim times, my elliptical sessions, and increasing my reps for strength training since I still have to be careful about my weight lifting due to my hernia surgery.

Changes - I plan to continue on 10 mg at my doctor’s advice but I’m really thinking about pushing it to 12.5 if he’ll let me. I’m feeling frustrated with my progress at this point. I’m also dropping my calories to rest more around 1700 calories a day while still using some caloric zig zagging. I’ve gotten lazy about my drink calories and I know I need to get those in check.

Now it’s your turn, tell me what you’re doing this month to hit your goals?

I want to explain the difference between these two pictures in case you can’t see it…

The woman on the left was
-Exhausted
-Just starting her fitness and nutrition transformation
-She didn’t have faith in herself to make it to goal
-She was nervous about lifting
-She was trying her best to be a good mom but didn’t have the energy or patience she wanted to have
-Had problems saying no even to her own detriment

The woman on the right
-Knows her value
-Moves her body intentionally every day
-Understands how important moderation is in everything
-Still likes to help others but knows that self-care is equally important
-Is a parent who can do anything her child wants to do
-Has lots of energy
-Is 16 months into her fitness and nutrition transformation with no end in sight
-Knows that she will meet her goals and a timeline doesn’t necessarily matter

Where are you right now, are the left or the right? Both of these women have value and so will any future versions.

Take the progress pictures!

On the days when you don’t want to take a picture, take it anyways. Your body can change quickly but your mind can take awhile to catch up and, on the hard days, those pictures can make all the difference.

When you out pictures side by side, it’s so much easier to see those small changes. I can see the changes in my arms, my shoulders, and my waist and these pictures help me to continue to propel myself forward.

I try to take pictures every few days, how about you? Do you find pictures work best for you or do you have another non-scale measure of your progress?

If this is what Ozempic face looks like after losing 100 pounds then I’ll take it!

In all seriousness, I understand that when you lose weight you can lose buccal fat. Fortunately, I have plenty of that to go around.

What do you think? What side effects of weight loss are you most concerned about? For me, I worry most about the loose skin on my legs but I know that I’m gaining lose skin because I’m losing weight that holds me back in others way.

I get asked a lot about my food choices and any specifics about my “diet.” I’m not on a diet though.

One of the best parts about my journey on Mounjaro has been my ability to reset my relationship with food. I’ve been able to make solid choices and really begin to retrain my brain to think of food as fuel.

Here are some of my favorite tips as someone who has been able to successfully lose weight on Mounjaro. Let me know what you think!

How it started how it’s going 105 pounds down

Can we talk about the biggest difference in these pictures? What do you think it is?

It’s not something visible, it’s something way more important, it’s the mental shift. While I still have 55 pounds to go, I’d love to share some of the biggest weight loss tips I have from an emotional/mental perspective:

1. Journal, write down your thoughts so that you can come back to them for perspective.
2. Set small goals instead of big ones. Celebrate every five pounds lost. I celebrated with manicures, pedicures, new shoes, you name it.
3. Any time you binge, write yourself a note about how you were feeling in that moment. It normally has little to do with hunger.
4. Talk to a therapist, therapy is fun and can offer perspective.
5. Spend time outside enjoying your newfound athletic freedom!
6. Take a long look at yourself in the mirror every day and learn to see the change because body dysmorphia is weird.
7. Mounjaro allowed me to dissect my toxic relationship with food. I’ve learned to see my food as fuel instead of an obsession.

Let me know if you have any tips to share too!

So many people are interested in GLP1s and while I might not be an expert, I have had a lot of success with Mounjaro so far.

GLP1s are game-changing medications but success with a GLP1 doesn’t happen in a vacuum. If you want to make the most out of your experience, there are some ways to boost your success. I’m sharing my favorite tips but let me know if you have any others!

As someone with type 2 diabetes and insulin resistant PCOS, I have struggled for years with my weight, A1C, energy, and cravings.

I’ve lost over 100 pounds over the past year with the help of diet, exercise, and a GLP1 but recently I’ve fallen into a plateau. My friends at Metavo sent me over a one month supply of Metavo products and I’m excited to say that the scale is moving again and I’m stronger, happier, and healthier than ever.

I’ve been using Metavo replacement shakes to help keep me full in the mornings and my Metavo supplements to boost my metabolism and immune system.*

I love that Metavo has allowed me to bust through my stall and I’m excited to continue to use it to support my weight loss goals. Only 55 pounds to go to goal and a lifetime of health ahead!

Can I be really honest for a minute?

I can see a little bit of a difference in my body, but most days I still picture myself at the same weight I started at. Many times, I’ll catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror and feel one of two things: 1. On good days - I don’t recognize that person and think they’re looking pretty good 2. On bad days - I see the person in the mirror and I’m disgusted with the fact that I still look the way I do.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m grateful for the chance to the change my life but I’m still upset that I have soooo far left to go. Is it just me, or does weight loss always feel like it takes forever?!?!

The picture in the red swimsuit is from one year ago today and it has taken me so long to get to the point that I am now. It’s taken me a year just to share that picture. I hated the idea of taking it but I’m so glad that I did. Take those pictures because, one day, your “before” will be a distant memory of a person you used to know.

Side by Side Saturday, 105 pounds down

Can I just be honest for a second? I’ve always been embarrassed by my big butt. Even at my smallest, I’m still very pear shaped. It’s taken me 39 years to finally feel comfortable embracing the big b***y.

Part of losing a significant amount of weight is coming to terms with how your new body is going to look. You can go through some grief regarding the absence of your original expectations but it’s important to gauge it success on how far you’ve come and now the original picture in your head.

Will I have plastic surgery? OMG, yes! Surgery isn’t for everyone but it’s an option for me and I’ll be excited to have it once I have the chance. Once I hit goal, I’d love to have my thighs and arms done.

What are your thoughts on plastic surgery after weight loss?

Transformation Tuesday

I remember taking that picture on the left. I remember covering my arms because I didn’t want anyone to see them. I remember adjusting the shirt so it didn’t feel as tight. I remember stretching out the stomach and the arms on that shirt so that it looked like it fit.

I just wanted to be comfortable. I wanted to be comfortable in my clothes. I wanted to be comfortable in my skin. I wanted to be comfortable in a seat at a movie theater.

Now that I have all of those things, I’m so excited to live life. People think that losing weight revolves around vanity but it’s so much more than that. When you finally take the chance on yourself, you take a chance at living a better and more fulfilling life. The non scale victories are so much better than the numbers on the scale.

Side by Side Saturday

If I’m honest, I’d love to be so much further along by now. I have to remind myself often of how far I’ve come. I have to tell myself almost daily that even though I don’t look like I want to, I do feel like I want to feel. Losing over 100 pounds is something that I didn’t know that I would ever be able to do.

Losing weight gets harder and harder the closer you get to your goal. I’m trying to set new goals for myself during this phase. I’m going to push harder than ever to try for a 5 pound loss each month over the next few weeks. With 40 closing in quickly, I want to try to rock out these goals.

As always, if you’re on a weight loss journey, make sure you take ALL the pictures. Pictures and measurements are your proof when the scale doesn’t want to cooperate!

Face to Face Friday

The face to face photos are always my favorite. Losing over 100 pounds makes a difference everywhere but seeing my face change is one of my favorites. It’s also nice to not have to worry about having to position my face so I don’t have 2-3 double chins!

What’s your favorite physical part of weight loss (aside from feeling so much better)?

Throwback Thursday with a 13 month difference

I’m pretty excited about the difference here and reminded that, even on days where I don’t feel like there’s that much of a change, there truly is a change. This is why documenting your weight loss journey is so important.

My abdomen is still really swollen from my hernia and diastasis recti repair but it’s soooo much better than it was 104 pounds again. Swelling should subside over the next few months as my seroma is absorbed

I’m so happy to be back on Mounjaro this month after dealing with the shortage and ready to get back to my normal activities and lose the next 60 or so pounds. My doctor cleared me for full return to activities and I’m operating at about 95% of my pre-surgery activity level. I’m so thankful to have that surgery behind me and ready to achieve all my goals this year. I can’t work abs for another 3 months or so but other than that I’m back up to full speed and even higher endurance on the elliptical and back to a mile on my swims. Weights are still a little lower than before but we’ll get there!

Side by Side Saturday

I’m still 104 pounds down but I’ll count that as a win since I didn’t gain weight during my lazy recovery time. Abdominal wall repair isn’t a joke but it is so worth it.

I already feel stronger and I can’t wait to be fully healed so that I have a chance to go full force in the gym. I swam a little less than a mile today and I’ll swim again tomorrow.

On a Mounjaro note, I took my injection last night and the food noise is gone again! I recognize that I’ve put in a lot of work to lose the weight but it’s made it possible. I’m hopeful that these shortages that have been affecting so many will ease up soon. It’s so important to so many and we deserve to have access to a medication that can help use save our own lives.

You see the pictures but here are some things you don’t see…

1. You don’t see the lack of motivation. After a busy morning getting my daughter ready for school and a long day at work, it would be so easy to just go pick up my daughter, go home, and relax. Instead, I walk out of work, drive straight to the gym, get my workout in, pick up my daughter, cook dinner, do homework, and then try to get a few minutes of relaxation in before bed.

2. I feel great, most of the time. Most days are spent enjoying this new lease on life but other days are spent with allowing myself to be upset over the scale not moving or feeling a little defeated by the image in the mirror. Those feelings are entirely acceptable but they’re hard.

3. Mounjaro allowed my body to function metabolically which meant that working out and having control over my nutrition actually put a dent in my weight. I don’t deal with any symptoms of PCOS and my fatty liver is gone.

4. You don’t see the work. I share the physical work but the mental work is so much harder!!! I’ve really had to retrain my brain regarding food and my relationship with it. This is the first time that food hasn’t consumed my daily thought processes.

5. You might see progress but I still see a job unfinished. I’m nowhere near done. There is no such thing as before and after because the after has to last forever. I keep telling myself that this isn’t my first weight loss journey but it is my last. I will never get to stop pushing and that can hard to wrap your head around at times.

What do you feel like people often miss when they look at these kinds of pictures?

Transformation Tuesday, (STILL) 104 pounds down

The past week has been a struggle for me. Yes, I look for the positive in everything but there are sometimes when life will just knock you down. Hernia repair surgery, a lack of a schedule, the inability to drive, switching from Mounjaro to Ozempic - not by choice, and my inability to workout the way that I want have weighed on me.

That’s when I show myself these pictures to remind myself of how far I have come already (still swollen in the last picture but the 🍑 still shows some change). The girl in that first picture had no idea that I’d make it this far. 100 pounds seemed to far away. In my mind, the probability of losing this much weight was as likely as winning the powerball jackpot. Then, I made a decision to keep going.

Yes, the past week has tested me but I’m going to do the best thing that I can do for myself and just keep going. I have my follow up appointment tomorrow and I’m hoping to get clearance to get back to some activities and work next Monday. If all goes well, I get to slowly but surely put my routine back to work.

I know this isn’t my usual positive post but, let’s be honest, things aren’t always perfect and extreme weight loss is an emotional roller coaster. Who’s with me?
