MSG was started by Joan and Stephen Millton in 1997, The first issue was distributed in November that year, The magazine was started because Joan and Stephen felt that Australia didn't have a magazine devoted to the lapidary, jewellery and enamelling arts, the Australian Lapidary Magazine had finished up years before, and as Australia has very active lapidary and jewellery making groups they felt

it would enhance the Australians to have a magazine featuring more local content. Joan and Stephen have both passed on and the magazine is still in the family, their daughter Anna-Margot is now editor in chief,and hoping to carry on their legacy and live up to the reputation the magazine has established.
