Bill Walton brought his irrepressible energy and zest for life to his love of basketball and everything he did. His rebounding and passing abilities, combined with a total unselfishness, made him one of the best team players in the history of the game.

He was also a man of deep conviction about politics, and was never afraid to say what he believed. He never forgot where he came from and was always the son of his librarian mother, searching for answers and certain that ideas had power. And he never hesitated to stand up for people he cared about.

I was proud to have him as a supporter, but more importantly as a friend. He made his mark and he will be missed by me and millions of others who loved him as a player, a broadcaster, a friend, and a dad.
