We all know how long the publishing process can take. Lucinda's mission has always been to accelerate this for writers.
On Tuesday and Thursday, She will be giving her most popular Free Masterclass, moderated by Kyle Austin Young, on "The 4 Kinds of Writers Who Get Book Deals (and How)." We have 500 seats available; half those seats were taken when we announced this class recently.
Lucinda will also have ample time for Q&A at the end, so if you didn’t get your publishing questions addressed during February’s masterclass, this is your chance to ask them and get expert solutions—plus hear questions from other writers attending, which is always invaluable.
The publishing market is ever-shifting, so this masterclass will allow you to learn (or re-learn) the essential elements needed to captivate agents and discover the the trends & tactics to include in your book proposal, manuscript, query letter, marketing package, and more.
It was designed for both fiction or non-fiction authors, and for writers who are just beginning, or more advanced in their publishing knowledge and pursuits. There's something new I hope to teach to every writer who attends.
Lucinda is offering it at two times this week:
Tuesday, May 21st at 1:00 PM ET
Thursday, May 23rd at 11:00 AM ET

For those writing self-help, here is what you want to tell agents:
You are writing a book because there is a question you are asked time and time and time again and it's a question you can uniquely answer because you have the trust, the authority, and the solution.
Here's my full interview on this topic + book to film + so much more with Rain Bennett of The Storytelling Lab (awesome podcast)!

This is one of the hardest things about sifting through our query inbox. At our literary agency, we see countless query letters, and they run the gamut from compelling all the way to confusing.
But something we come across far too often in queries is a writer who hasn’t identified the impact of their book. A full synopsis can be valuable once we’re hooked… but we can’t get invested in all the little details when we’re not immediately seeing the big idea. Comps really help!
When you’re writing your query, be sure that you’ve included your version of a logline, an elevator pitch, the nutshell, in just 1-2 lines. To make it as easy as possible for an agent to fall in love, the introductory section of your letter should be:
📝 One paragraph, MAX.
📝 Just the high points. For fiction, this could be the inciting event of your novel, and what’s at stake for the protagonist. For nonfiction, this could be: what you hope to accomplish with your book; your credentials and/or a proven audience for your book; how you’re going to prove the conventional understanding wrong; or how the reader will walk away better, happier than when they started.
📝 NOT the nitty gritty of the plot, or a litany of statistics. Interested in learning more?

📚 " If you're a business person and you're writing a memoir about that world, you need to ensure that it's relatable to the broader world " 🌍 @editortracy Tracy Sherrod mentions that some of the classic deal breakers for her when reading memoirs are when things are too personal and too insular and don’t bring in the broader world! ❓
Do you have questions for our team about writing a memoir? 🤔 We can answer it for you in the next live! 🎙️

❌️ Myth: you need a certain number of followers or email list subscribers to get a book deal.
✅️ Fact: that's definitely helpful and may even be a requirement for certain nonfiction books, BUT don't lose sight of those other 2 keys: the great writing, the big idea.
If you're interested in learning more about building your personal platform, creating a killer marketing plan, and what agents and publishers are looking for, Lucinda Literary is running a VIP Marketing Half-Day Workshop on 📅 Saturday, April 6th, from 🕐 10AM-1PM ET.

"The instinct is, 'I'm going to keep this close to the vest, I'm not going to tell anyone, because what if it never gets published? What if people hate it? What if I'm terrible? What if I have nothing original to say?' In fact, if you tell everyone you're writing a book, chances are you'll connect with someone who can help you."
Lucinda was interviewed by Kelton Reid of The Writer Files about her upcoming book, GET SIGNED: Find a Book Deal, Land an Agent, and Become a Published Author. She was able to speak to the process of writing a book and getting an agent from both sides of the spectrum—even as a literary agent, she's not immune to the vulnerability that comes with being an author.
Memoir writers, please do not miss this once in a blue moon opportunity to meet with our star literary agent Jackie Ashton, and Executive Editor at Hachette, Tracy Sherrod, and learn so much about how to fast-track your success to getting signed and becoming an author! Plus, you'll get expert eyes on your material and answers to your personal questions.
Our event for memoirists, held on 2/16 at 12:30 ET over zoom, is nearly filled to capacity with few spaces left:

This event is designed for authors of all genres and at every stage in the writing process.
