Start of today’s HomeRun for Habitat 5K event in Southaven. Money raised from today’s run and Fall Fest helps raise money toward a land purchase and building a Habitat for Humanity home in DeSoto County.

City of Horn Lake, MS officials broke ground this afternoon for a new $4.5 million Horn Lake Animal Shelter, which is expected to be completed by next April. The land was the former football field for Horn Lake High School and was donated to the city by the school district. Look for more on this at desotocountynews.com.
Amplify Cell Technologies groundbreaking event.
Officials were on hand, including Gov. Tate Reeves and Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith to break ground on the multi-billion dollar Amplify Cell Technologies project near Byhalia on Friday afternoon. It will bring 2,000 jobs to the area and another 3,000 construction jobs to help build it.

Swinnea Road ribbon cutting
The Swinnea Road connection between McIngvale and Starlanding roads is now officially open with this afternoon’s ribbon cutting. The county road project is a new north-south road between Hernando and Southaven.
Students are getting the chance to learn about college and career opportunities today at Desoto County Schools Career Tech West. Businesses and colleges are lining the hallways to answer questions for students there.
