Thank you to the Word Guild for the Award of Merit 🏅📕 for my book, No One Brings You a Casserole When Your Husband Goes to Rehab.

My book was shortlisted for the life stories memoir category, and though I did not place first, I received an award of merit for it being deserving of a win, to which I am grateful and honoured!

As a first-time author, it’s nerve-wracking entering a national contest alongside seasoned published writers. It’s been hard for me to break out of the mindset that I’m a real author, and not a three time college drop out without an agent! 😅🙈

My book scored 91.5% out of 100, to which my perfectionist nature is pleased with 😊. Needless to say, I’m very happy with the award! (And now my books have little award stickers on them if you order them from me!)

But wait.

I am also happy and grateful to have won FIRST PLACE for the Best Blog of the Year Award for 2022. 🙏🥇 I scored a whopping 97.3% out of 100.

Yes, I put that second 😬🤭.

“God allows His faithful people to walk through adversity and hardship, even when it nearly destroys them. I can’t imagine that Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were comfortable in the belly of fire (Daniel 3). Though the fire didn’t burn them, I’d bet it was still sweltering.

That’s how I felt. I knew I would make it through the fire, but it was terrifying and painful to stand in the midst of my worst nightmare. How many errors in judgment could one girl make in her life?

Dear New York, you lied to me.

You said I was home, but I was far from it. You said I could be anyone I wanted, but I was trapped. Your streets drip with the blood, sweat, and tears of dreamers like me.

As a young girl, I lay on the floor of my bedroom and imagined my life with you; I would sing Broadway musicals on rooftops, put on fabulous plays and make the audience roar, and write grand love stories worthy of The Great Gatsby. We’d dance your streets, swinging round lampposts in our tap shoes. But in New Jersey, I couldn’t reach you. I was bound by my husband’s addiction. You were so close, I could taste it—or more appropriately, smell it. Roasted cashews, pizza, and bagels. Subway steam rising through city streets. The heartbeat of the city echoing in the suburbs.

Was this is it for me? Would my story change? If I stayed in my sweatpants, would God give my dream to someone else?”
