all roads end somewhere and this one ends here for Gab. BAZZOOKA is about the intersection of all of our stories, and Gab's for me has been very close to my heart. the way she's changed and grown since Kill me to death in a lot of ways mirrors how far away i feel from the person i was 5 years ago. and who she is today is a catalyst for so many other people's stories, and these are stories i hope i get to tell in the next iterations of . a big THANK YOU to everyone who donated, championed and tuned in, we couldn't have done this alone. this project showed me how powerful this community can be when we do it together, and my hope is that it's just the beginning........ to be continued

#6 "SEATTLE IS BURNING!" (director's note) 🔥⚡💥

ok, so.... Bazzooka done jumped the shark. by the time we came back from a 4-month lockdown hiatus to film a finale, we had even more filming restrictions, less time + it was like filmmaking with two hands tied behind your back. so we said, f**k it, let's go fully blaxpoitation b-movie buckwild like the world is ending anyway. lets do explosions, bazzookas, aliens, earthquake, sky going black, why not!! the scene where Eva faces the Mayor outside is hilarious because no two people are even in the same shot together. we filmed that one 2min scene five different times in different locations. it was one of the worst filming experiences of my entire life and complete chaos in the worst way, but. it kind of works because chaos is what the story called for. and having Bam Bam close out the episode to an empty stage was very important to me, it made it all worth it in the end.

the final installment #7 is a more personal, heavy ending for Gab's story and i'm excited for you all to see it. join us on May 6th when we screen #6+ #7 as a double feature with !

BAZZOOKA is going to this year's Seattle Black Film Fest and got a cooool mention in The Seattle Times today! 💥

"Among the feature-length films on tap: the documentaries “Before Things Fell Apart,” in which griots (traditional storytellers/historians/musicians) tell the history of Western Sudan; “In My Skin,” about structural racism in Brazil; “Ophir,” which examines the revolution in Bougainville, Papua New Guinea; and the romantic drama “Love Like Winter.” The festival will offer a wide assortment of short films, including several by Pacific Northwest filmmakers: “Bazzooka” (Danny Denial), “Aje Ijo Series (4th installment finale): Immortal” (Kiana Davis); “Such an Honor” (Nicole Pouchet) and “Depression: Antidote” (Catherine Harris-White)."

#5 "1-800-HOPELESS" (director's note) 📞💥

the one where it kind of, sort of starts to tie together! basically this is the set-up for our finale, which gives this one a very uncanny valley sort of bizarro 90s surrreal soap vibe. i love that for us. most everyone is "on the phone" as way to feature more supporting cast despite COVID. there were only so many green screen and masked shoots we could pull off, so having an episode where we more characters all alone, at this stage, felt like the right beat before heading into the final act. it was also a fun opportunity to tie in my old music video Blow Up Your Whole Life, which is set between Kill me to death and BAZZOOKA but was actually the first time Eva and Michael played Yale and Gab. we shot that at the Marco Polo in 2016 and working it into the ~universe was a fun editing experiment. And despite filming everyone completely isolated for #5, it still delivered my favorite moment of the series: "they're totally f**king aliens!!"
