Day 1 in Los Angeles is done. Well at least the first half. We started the day at then took a trip to see the Hollywood Sign. We also went to . If you love space please go in. It’s free!! The workers and I had some great conversations. I was able to ask all the questions. I could have stayed here much longer. When visiting the Hollywood sign be sure to get out and go down the pathway to get good photos. Any questions so far???

The first day of school looks a little different for us this year. Not only are we homeschooling the girls, we decided to put them in a local coop. They get to learn with other kids, play and their education will be tailored to them since it is such a small group. Starting the day with prayer was just the icing on the cake for us. Here’s to great school year for all our children.

After having had perinatal and postpartum depression in the past we wanted to be proactive this pregnancy to ensure I the support needed this pregnancy. Ensuring that we prioritized our marriage as well was important to us. Meaningful date nights and verbalizing how dad could help with baby were two of the most helpful things for us. This Photoshoot was simply an excuse to get dressed and look cute for each other. If you have kids then you know looks are the least of your concern the first year postpartum. It’s A Girl!! Born on 01/19/23 God has showed up and showed out again! Our hearts are full and our eyes aren’t big enough to see her. Our princess is here and healthy. Mama is healthy and doing well. Thank you for all the prayers, encouragement and just being here when we needed each and everyone of you. These last couple of days has been Heaven on earth as we soak her up. Woke up feeling blessed and grateful for our journey with Baby Perkins so far. We are in the third trimester and to think next month or so we will be holding our rainbow baby. I’m super duper grateful to be doing this with my bff. Having someone who rubs my belly, feet and feeds me 24/7 is priceless. 🥰 Y’all I made my registry and y’all have even started purchasing items. If you knew the mental struggle to even allow myself to make one you would know how I am appreciative of any thing purchased. It’s countdown time y’all! Let me know what’s a must have for baby because things change fast. Baby girl is 4 so I need all the tips.
Now I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t share my journey with you guys. So here is an update. Lately I actually haven’t been working as much in the clinic because of contractions. I started feeling those wave like cramps with pressure and of course I started to panic and worry. They started to get worse of time and were 4 to 5 minutes a part. We checked into L&D and we were able to get them stopped. Hallelujah! Well I have some fibroids and they are causing me to contract. The good news is no cervical changes sent were noted as well! The not so good news is that I may continue to get scared throughout this pregnancy. It’s also just an extra issue that I have to deal without throughout this journey. I’m believing God for a miracle. I just want you all to know that although I am a healthcare provider, I am human and I go through the same emotions as you. I’m human. I’m scared, anxious but I’m also a believer and I have to use my faith to keep my mind in check. I know the statistics for black women and maternal health and yes it’s on my mind too. However, “ Today I am pregnant, baby has a heartbeat and we are healthy. “

After two years, I have sent these three to school. I have to get used to my babies being gone to school. My little first grader has never been to daycare, prek or kindergarten. I’m a ball of nerves. Homeschool has been so rewarding but sometimes you have to pivot due to life’s changes. I’m thankful I was able to get it all done in less than two weeks and the kids not look like it. I still have a high school student to homeschool so I still have my hands full with curriculum. Hoping everyone has an amazing year! PS teachers, staff and bus drivers need a raise!

My kids are so excited for summer travel and outings, I can't even explain it! The oldest got their shots as soon as the vaccine became available for kids 5+ and have received their booster now that it has been 5 months, and that's is the main reason I feel comfortable traveling as much as we have planned this summer.
As a parent, all I want this summer is for my kids to have the best time of their lives! Now that they have that extra layer of protection, they are ready to create the best summer memories!

There are regulations being made that can endanger access to lifesaving cancer screening tests. We know the Pap test has made cervical cancer go from number one cancer-related killer of women to number 15. However, having the HPV test alone puts those with a cervix at increased risk of their cervical cancer not being detected early. This is huge because the Pap test and the combined Pap + HPV co-test are recognized as the most successful methods for early detection. Studies and statistics show that the Pap + HPV co-test in particular has caught 94.1% of cervical cancers and 99.7% of cervical pre-cancers, and has successfully identified 70% of cancers that were missed by the HPV test alone.

Long post but worth it:
In honor of graduation season, I want to take a moment to tell you a story about setting a goal, making a plan and following through.
I started high school with no knowledge of how important grades truly were and class rank or even exit testing. No one in my family went to college that I knew of. My environment was less than ideal to say the least.
So it was progress report time of the first semester in 9th grade and I remember having an F in art. My instructor pulled me aside and told me about the crowd I was hanging with and how they still did their work and was passing and I was the only that didn’t. She also told me that she knew I was smarter than acted but unfortunately if I didn’t do the work then that didn’t matter. I remember looking at my friends and then looking at her and telling her I was going to bring my grade up and I was going to make an A. She said I don’t see how that’s possible, but you can definitely get a C may be a B. To keep the story short, I made an A. I don’t remember if it was all A’s or A B honor roll that semester but I do remember my classmates starting to talk about class rank. They were so excited to be in the top ten. I was number 7 if I’m not mistaken but in the end I clueless as to it’s importance. I was like what’s the big deal. 🙄 They ended up explaining to me about college and scholarships etc. and how it’s competitive to get in.
Now as the oldest child, I’m a little competitive and since it’s a competition sign me up for all honors classes too. So ya girl was doing good behavior wise but you know I didn’t quite shake the hood so I had a lil tussle or whatever. I had to go to TOR for some days but that was it. I remember it was finals time and my geography teacher was looking like you weren’t in class so good luck. 🙄 Y’all why was the test to label world map with every single country. What y’all think I made? Yep y’all already know! 100/100 play with your kids not me boo!!
Oh I ended up on the dance team and that was one of my biggest blessings. It kept me out of trouble from 3-5 and it gave me someone to look up too. If you knew Mrs. Maloney then you knew she was that girl. She taught us that Dancers are to be seen and not heard. She also taught me to pick my battles. She gave me so much grace when I went from fighting to survive to fighting to get out of my environment. I realized the only way I could get out of that environment was to go to college and get a scholarship. I knew no one would help me pay for college, and my mom made it a point to tell me if she had to pay for me to go to college, then I wasn’t going.
Aight now it’s senior year and I was number 3 in my class. I told one of my friends that I had come up with a possible way to be the valedictorian. I had calculated how many classes I could take and what grades to make to get my gpa at least a 4.3. She was like girl, the person that is number one has been number one since 9th grade but if anyone can do it I think it’s you. I’m not sure where that girl got so much faith in me but it was all the support I needed and had to be honest. It's the end of the first semester and I had made all A’s and the person who was number 2 made a B so I became number two. Well fast forward and it’s time for graduation and we needed to pick up caps and gowns. Y’all should have seen the looks I got when I hopped out the car. I never seen such looks of disgust by so many people. So someone said, Oreal you number one! Me playing it off how y’all know? Well final grades are in and they announced it. So ya girl wrote a fire speech and it went to college. That’s a story for another time if y’all want to hear it. Just know it was rocky too🤷🏾♀️.
I'm here to tell you that everyone can count you out but you have to count yourself in. I was counted out at an early age. However, I knew my plan and I counted the cost and paid the price. All I am saying is you have to have a plan for your life. Figure out your goals and the steps to achieve them. Then you start ticking off the boxes one by one. No one has to believe in you but you. I hope this encouraged you to go after your dreams.

Letting Go and Letting God… I wondered what this day would be like since 11/24/22. Having a stillborn was definitely something I always considered something I just couldn’t handle. Then it became my testimony.During the first six months, I tried so hard to get pregnant because I didn’t know what else to do. Eventually the spirit said take a break and let me handle this. We were blessed with the best news ever. Not only am I pregnant, but all prenatal testing so far has been normal. Priorities people prioritize your money
If your cycle is MIA, then it’s time to take a pregnancy test. Most pregnancy test ls work the same any detecting the amount of hcg in your urine. Human chorionic gonadotropin aka HCG is the hormone release when you become pregnant. Right now your baby is the size of the poppy seed and you may not have any symptoms at all. You may also be experiencing a metallic taste, sore breasts, or headaches in addition a cycle. So put those pads and tampons up and be sure to pick up some prenatal vitamins asap. If you need tests or vitamin recommendations let me know. I will also link them in my stories and highlight under Baby Valentine just in case you are a little shy.
