Mike Wilson aka SONEK is a rising producer/DJ hailing from Calgary, Canada. This talented DJ entered the Breaks scene many years ago and managed to share stages with great artists of the international electronic scene. As a logical step to his career he had started producing quality, p
hat and ultra funky Breaks music with touches of Electro and B***y power. His first remix for V.I.M.BREAKS showed the face of light back in the end of 2011, and since then he never looked back. During 2012 he managed to build a really promising profile with releases for BREAKZ R BOSS RECORDS and YOUNG NRG PRODUCTIONS. He was also one of the two winners of the DIABLO LOCO RECORDS remix competition, showcasing his remix for SYNTHETIC HYPE's-SLAP DA BASS. In 2013, he released his debut singles on BREAKZ R BOSS RECORDS, EGO SHOT RECORDINGS, V.I.M.BREAKS, and DIABLO LOCO RECORDS. Many of these original tracks made it on to Beatport’s Top 100 Breaks Chart, including SONEK - “Bounce To The Beat” at #33, and SONEK – Def Wild Styles (Kwerk Remix) at #21. Here is the last track on my Hit the Floor EP. Rounding it all off is ‘Got the Wildstyle’. Sonek brings the tempo a bit down, but keeps it big and beefy, with some serious kicks and snares, wild horns, cut-up vocals, and a drop to make you feel that bass.
Here is the third track on my upcoming Hit the Floor EP. 'Ain’t it Funky’, gets down and dirty, with its’ super funky guitar stabs, gritty bass, and a drum groove the greats of funk would be proud of.
Simplicity is the key for the next track, and it packs a punch. ‘Thinking about you,' starts nice and chilled, with a smooth synth, building up with the main vocal and dropping into a banging beat, accompanied with a bassline that brings a bit of screwface with it.
After a couple of successful collabs with Funkinright, it’s time for Sonek to stretch his legs, and release his debut BBP EP. And he doesn’t disappoint. Kicking it all off is the lead track, "Hit the Floor." This is a heavy hitter, dropping with some sweeping basses, and tucking a subtle funky guitar, synths and vocal stabs nicely behind to bring it all to life. - Breakbeat Paradise Recordings
