What not to do! ▶️I saw this advertisement from an equipment manufacturer that a great example of how NOT to record a voice. The mic is too far away from the talent and will only yield thin, ambient, and unintelligible sound instead of the rich and full sound needed. Why misinform your clients to get a pretty photo?

I love technology and any tool that helps me do my job the very best. Here is a Shotgun Microphone. It has a very narrow sound pickup pattern \(ultra cardioid\). A handy piece of equipment at special events.

It's an honor to share my 40+ years as an audio engineer with these students. Here I am with the Spring 2024 Voice Over Media class. Students are learning how to voice different types of media. Some are involved in theater, some are headed into broadcast media, while others are interested in possible VO work in the future. Great students. Lots of energy and excitement.

The Science of Sound: Suppose you entered an unknown, dark room, or you couldn’t rely on your sense of sight. Your brain would depend upon your auditory sense to help you determine the spatial relationship. While you may not know where walls are, you can “feel” where obstacles are by sensing the minute changes in the reflection time. As you slowly approach a wall, the auditory reflection time gets shorter. The brain compares these signals and makes the determination that you are getting closer to something.Similarly, your ear assesses how close or far a person is when speaking by their volume and the amount of other noises mixed with their speech. Poor sound at an event = poor results and reviews. Hire experience.
