IAF Mig-29UPG Landing at Leh Air Base.
Facts:
1️⃣ The Indian Air Force has acquired the capability to fly its MiG-29 fighters at night.
2️⃣ It is a “game-changer” because training by night will strengthen its capability to conduct full-spectrum operations at the Line of Actual Control on short notice, given Leh’s proximity to the LAC.
3️⃣ The new capability is fuelled by upgrades to the MiG-29, including advanced avionics, and faster and more extensive training of IAF pilots among other factors.
4️⃣ Leh is not a permanent fighter base, but detachments of aircraft are sent there on a regular basis.
5️⃣ MiG-29s are carrying out extensive, round-the-clock flying from Leh, which will also help the force validate geospatial data to enhance its capabilities in night operations.
6️⃣ In modern warfare, most operations are carried out at night, for two reasons.
✅ The first reason is that there are chances of the enemy being comparatively less alert during the night.
✅ Second, there is less chance of visual detection of the aircraft, which helps in surprising the enemy.
7️⃣ Chinese airfields in the LAC region near Ladakh are at a higher altitude than Leh, and thus, their load carrying capacity is lower, while fighters operating from Leh airbase can have a higher load-carrying capacity.

India Successfully Test Most Advanced Hypersonic Missile HSTDV
Facts:
1️⃣ On 07 Sept 2020, India tested Hypersonic Technology Demontrator Vehicle which proved Indian technical capabilities to produce hypersonic missiles. Currently hypersonic missiles are considered as most advanced defense technology. Till date, only four nations US, Russia, China and now India have successfully tested it while other nations are still trying to catch up.
2️⃣ Any missile that flies beyond Mach 5 or more than 6100 kilometers per hour is called hypersonic missiles. These missiles rely on their speed and agility to overcome enemy defenses as they can reach speeds comparable to ballistic missile while maintain a much stealthier flight path.
3️⃣ Till date, only Russian Avangard hypersonic glide vehicle (HGV) has entered in operational service in large numbers.
4️⃣ The US hypersonic missile system is called Common-Hypersonic Glide Body (C-HGB) which is still in development and their first footage was released to media in March 2020.
5️⃣ Chinese Hypersonic glide vehicle is called DF-ZF which entered operational service in 2019, however, it is still being tested and refined. DF-ZF is fired using a DF-17 ballistic missile which was specifically designed for carrying hypersonic glide vehicles.
6️⃣ The Indian Hypersonic Technology Demontrator Vehicle (HSTDV) has been designed to fly at speed of Mach 12 or 14800 kilometers per hour. At this speed, HSTDV is much faster than Chinese DF-ZF hypersonic glide vehicles. Though, HSTDV is just a demonstrator, it has made it clear that India now has all the building blocks for making next generation Hypersonic glide vehicles or hypersonic missiles.

MiG 29K taking off from aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya
Facts :
1️⃣ INS Vikramaditya is the Indian Navy’s largest short take-off, but assisted recovery (STOBAR) aircraft carrier and warship converted from the Russian Navy’s decommissioned Admiral Gorshkov vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) missile cruiser carrier. INS Vikramaditya was commissioned into service in November 2013.
2️⃣ The warship has been extensively refurbished with new propulsion systems, hull sections, sensors and flight deck. It was operationally deployed with full complement of MiG-29 aircraft in May 2014.
3️⃣ The vessel can carry more than 30 long-range multi-role fighters with anti-ship missiles, air-to-air missiles, guided bombs and rockets. The aircraft aboard the carrier include MiG 29K / Sea Harrier combat aircraft, Kamov 31 radar picket Airborne Early Warning (AEW) helicopter, Kamov 28 naval helicopter, Sea King helicopter, ALH-Dhruv, and Chetak helicopter.
4️⃣ The refurbished aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya is equipped with 234 new hull sections constructed using 2,500t of steel. It has an overall length of 284m, a maximum beam of 60m, height of about 60m and a displacement of 44,500t.
5️⃣ The re-equipped superstructure of the Vikramaditya houses state-of-the-art launch and recovery systems, long-range air surveillance radars and advanced electronic warfare suite.
6️⃣ The INS Vikramaditya is powered by eight new generation boilers, which produce a total power of 180,000shp driving four huge propellers. Each boiler generates 100tph of steam at a very high pressure of 64bar. The ship also employs six turbo alternators and six diesel alternators, which produce a total power of 18MW.
