The year was 1971 in Woodbine, Georgia. The small town on the southeastern tip of the state sat right near the Florida state line. A few years prior, the town had been selected to house the Thiokol Chemical Corporation plant, which would bring an ample amount of jobs to the region as the company had been awarded a contract from the U.S. Army to develop trip flares for the Vietnam War. On Feb. 3, 1971, everything changed. A fire started in one of the buildings — an unfortunately common occurrence. But this was different. What happened at 10:53 a.m. would come to be known as one of the worst industrial accidents in U.S. history. In our six-part narrative podcast, we investigate what happened and the aftermath that left families devastated. Episode 1 drops tomorrow wherever you listen to podcasts. https://omny.fm/shows/tripwire

“My favorite is when people call and say, ‘What do you serve?’” co-owner Ashley Lee said with a laugh. “Chicken fingers. That’s it.” Chicken Fingers is the name, but it’s not quite the only thing you’ll find there. There's the chicken finger sandwich and the buffalo chicken wrap, and sides such as coleslaw, potato salad, fries and toast. But the short menu attracts long lines of customers to the restaurant’s strip-mall storefront location in Evans.
