About Velvet Comics

Hi, I’m Gabriel Moses A. Benitez one of the co-founders of Velvet Comics. I’ve been reading comic books since 1997, I was 5 at that time and the first comic series that I’ve ever read was Spawn, it was shortly after I watched the HBO animated cartoon adaptation and I was quickly a fan and my mother bought me the first 2 issues of the series and it really blew me away. Aside from Spawn I also read Manga series like Berserk, Oh! My Goddess, Fist Of The North Star, Fist Of The Blue Sky, Fushigi Yuugi and most notably Hunter X Hunter. Even in video games I also take direct inspirations from Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, Tekken, Virtua Fighter and SNK or Fatal Fury. Other inspirations include the Yakuza Game series, Metal Gear Solid, Devil May Cry, Resident Evil, Monster Hunter and Prototype.

  • When it comes down to other comic book publishing companies, I take direct inspiration from Aspen MLT, Valiant, Dark Horse and the original 1990’s Vertigo era. How did I come up with Velvet Comics? Well in my mind I just felt like there are too many companies using the words “D”, “M” or F. So I just wanted to distant itself away from the usual letter into far away and Valiant is a good example and I personally cannot wait to reveal some characters for Velvet Comics very soon. I can’t wait to share upcoming characters to each and everyone of you and we will try our best to deliver quality story telling and to some who are new to this page we also associate ourselves with “Comics Gate” as a way to let these Social Justice Warriors know, that we will take precaution and we are fully aware of what’s really happening in the comic book industry and this is something we tend to avoid at all times for instance like hiring writers and artists and please take note my fellow co-founders are also taking critical looks in the hiring because we can’t just be hiring people right away only to let them shorhorn their “Identity Politics”, “Social Justice Narrative” and Feminism Narrative. That is a big no and if any writer or artist tries to come up with these, we can simply and effectively remove them.
