Lynda Lee Macken grew up on Staten Island where her interest in the supernatural was fostered by a nearby haunted house. In 2000, the author founded Black Cat Press and published her first book, Haunted History of Staten Island, which remains the best-selling book about Richmond County, NY on Amazon.com. Following her sighting of Grace Brown's ghost floating over Big Moose Lake in New York State's

Adirondack Mountains, Macken appeared on Unsolved Mysteries to detail her experience. The ghostly encounter inspired her to pen Adirondack Ghosts. In the process to understand paranormal phenomena the author went on to research, write and publish 25 additional regional ghost books highlighting the most haunted places in New York; New Jersey; New Hope, Pennsylvania; Baltimore, Maryland and Salem, Massachusetts. In addition to her many radio and television appearances, Macken has consulted for Paranormal Borderline, Scariest Places on Earth, Psychic Kids, Ghost Hunters, PBS and the Travel Channel, among others. The death of loved ones promoted further interest in the mystery of death and the survival of consciousness. Consequently, Macken published her first memoir, Array of Hope, An Afterlife Journal in 2008 which chronicles after death communications with her mother. The author holds a Bachelor of Arts Degrees in Sociology from Rutgers University and lives at the Jersey Shore.

Focus on What You Want, Not What You Don’t Want...

Energy flows where attention goes. You can focus your thoughts and energy on the desired outcomes, not the obstacles. By staying positive and solution-oriented, you’ll naturally attract the experiences that align with your highest good.

Here's today's PHOTO OF THE DAY!!! To celebrate Halloween, we're sharing a selection of our favorite haunting tales from across the region!!! This incredible image, captured by Adirondacks by Air, shows a stunning contrast between the magnificent fall foliage, and the hulking grey structures in the foreground. Looming stark and empty above the small town of Lyon Mountain, New York, these crumbling buildings were once part of the vast iron mining operations here. The large building in the center, known as "Mill No. 3," was built in 1917 and also served as a powerhouse, supplying compressed air to run equipment in the maze of shafts below. Once perched atop a barren moonscape of ore tailings, these old buildings actually stand on a thick layer of cast-off material, separated from the valuable ore. The bricks which were used in their construction were even made of it. Opened in the late 19th Century, the mines were run by the "Chateaugay Ore and Iron Company," and quickly made huge fortunes for their owners, Andrew Williams and Smith W**d of Plattsburgh. By 1902, surveys discovered that the veins of ore at Lyon Mountain were six miles long and 70 feet thick (estimated at some 500 million tons), making it one of the largest and richest deposits in the World. At its height, material from Lyon Mountain contributed to the construction of the famous Brooklyn, George Washington, and Golden Gate Bridges. Deaths were frequent and over the years, 160 men met their end toiling down below. Later purchased by Republic Steel, the mines ultimately became some of the deepest in the Country, stretching some 3,500 feet beneath the town. The immense depth helped drive up costs, eventually leading to the closure of the mines in 1967. Today these deteriorating reminders are all that remain.
