Day 3 of #CaltexHavolineLoveForTheJourney brought us to the Old Dutch Fort of Katuwana and the Mulkirigala Rock Monastery in Weeraketiya and wound up in Unawatuna for our final pit stop of the road trip!🚗🗺️ 📍Mulkirigala Rock Monastery - Mulkirigala Rock Temple can be reached coming along Beliatta -Weeraketiya main road and turning off at Mulkirigala Junction. The temple is situated 2km from the Mulkirigala Junction. The Rock of Mulkirigala rises about 676 feet from the surrounding land mass. There are seven cave temples situated in five Terraced areas of different altitudes. This temple is believed to be over 2550 years old and the climb can get quite strenuous with 552 steps right to the top but once you’re up there the views are breathtaking and the paintings on the rock itself are amusing to see!

Day 3 of #CaltexHavolineLoveForTheJourney brought us to the Old Dutch Fort of Katuwana and the Mulkirigala Rock Monastery in Weeraketiya and wound up in Unawatuna for our final pit stop of the road trip!🚗🗺️📍Katuwana Fort - the colonial forts in Sri Lanka were built on coastal areas to protect the entry points such as harbours from invading forces. But there are some forts which were built inside the country. They were meant to defend the lowlands from the Kandyan Kingdom in the hills.Until Kandy fell to the British in 1815, it was an independent kingdom refusing to bow its head to the colonial powers which held the coastal belt. Therefore the the Dutch and the Portuguese built several forts on the foothills which bordered the Kandyan Kingdom and their areas. Katuwana Fort is a such fort located in the Hambantota District built in 1645 A.D. by the Dutch East India Company.

On Day 2 of #CaltexHavolineLoveForTheJourney we went further South from Kalawana to Neluwa to explore a beautiful waterfall and then headed to a beautiful temple on top of a mountain before we made our second pit stop for the trip in Tangalle!🚗🗺️
