Chapter 1: A New Beginning
Brian trudged through the muddy paths of the farmers' area in Limuru, balancing a crate of milk on his shoulder. It was early morning, and the air was crisp with the promise of a new day. He had been delivering milk to the dairy for years now, a routine ingrained into his daily life.
His phone buzzed in his pocket, interrupting his thoughts. It was his mom. He answered, the familiar warmth of her voice filling his ears.
"Brian, my dear, you don't need to do that today," she said gently.
Confusion knitted Brian's brows together. "But Mom, I've already made the deliveries. What's going on?"
"You're going to Nairobi, to live with your cousin, Hillary," his mom announced proudly. "It's time for you to start a new chapter in your life."
Brian's heart skipped a beat. Nairobi? That bustling city seemed like a world away from the quiet countryside he called home. But the excitement in his mother's voice was infectious, and he couldn't help but feel a glimmer of anticipation.
"Wow, really?" Brian exclaimed, a smile spreading across his face. "I'll start packing right away!"
His mom chuckled. "I knew you'd be excited. I'm so proud of you, Brian. I know you'll thrive in the city and become the electrical engineer you've always dreamed of being."
Tears pricked Brian's eyes as he hung up the phone. His mind raced with possibilities as he made his way back home.
Back at the modest house he shared with his mom and younger brother, Brian packed his belongings with a mix of eagerness and nostalgia. Memories flooded back to him—of his dad, who had passed away when he was just a child, leaving his mom to shoulder the burden of raising two young boys on her own.
He remembered the sacrifices his mom had made to ensure they had food on the table and a roof over their heads. He recalled late nights spent hunched over textbooks, his mom by his side, helping him navigate the intricacies of calculus and physics.
"I'll make you proud, Mom," Brian whispered to himself, determination burning bright in his eyes. "I'll do whatever it takes to succeed."
As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a golden glow over the horizon, Brian's bags were packed and ready by the door. Tomorrow, he would embark on a new journey—one filled with promise and opportunity.

Meanwhile, in a stylish apartment in the heart of Nairobi, Hillary stirred awake to the remnants of last night's party strewn across the living room. Empty bottles littered the floor, and the faint smell of alcohol hung in the air.
With a groan, Hillary sat up, rubbing his temples as he tried to shake off the remnants of a hangover. He glanced around the room, taking in the chaos with a mixture of amusement and regret.
Just then, his phone rang, interrupting his thoughts. He glanced at the caller ID and saw it was Brian's mom. Frowning, he answered the call, wondering what she could possibly want at this early hour.
"Hello?" Hillary said, his voice hoarse.
"Good morning, Hillary," Brian's mom greeted him warmly. "I hope I'm not interrupting anything."
Hillary glanced around the messy apartment guiltily. "No, not at all. What's up?"
"I just wanted to let you know that Brian is on his way to Nairobi," Brian's mom said excitedly. "I know you two haven't seen each other in years, so I thought I'd give you a heads up."
A smile tugged at the corners of Hillary's lips. "That's great news! I can't wait to catch up with him."
"I knew I could count on you to look out for him," Brian's mom said gratefully. "Take care of him, okay?"
"You got it," Hillary promised, a surge of affection for his cousin swelling in his chest. "I'll make sure he settles in just fine."
As he hung up the phone, Hillary's mind raced with thoughts of reconnecting with Brian. Despite the mess surrounding him, he couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement for the new chapter that lay ahead. ....
