We thought of that this week as we drove up and down a handful of streets in West Elsdon, where a few pissant punks have been bending street signs, apparently to try and mark gang turf.
But truth is, it's not their turf. It's yours, it's ours, the overwhelmingly large majority of law-abiding men and women of the community.
So, when you see a bent street sign (as we did, north of 55th Street, on. Keeler, Tripp and Kolin) report it immediately to 311, as well as the alderman's office, as we did.
Fact is, we get what we put up with. And none of us should put up with gangbanger wannabes. Ever. Nope, Not here.

Two men who crashed their Corvettes during a 100 mph race near Midway Airport, killing a tourist who was walking nearby, have been sentenced to probation.

Young students of the Boitsov Classical Ballet School are the centerpiece of this event. The school, currently housed at 5638 W. 63rd St., is owned and operated by Madame Elizabeth Boitsov, an internationally acclaimed Russian ballet teacher who began training in the art when she was a small child, more than 60 years ago.
In addition to the Boitsov students, there will be dancers from professional ballet companies, some of whom are Boitsov alumni.
Dancers will perform to excerpts from Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella.
No charge to attend. Seats will fill quickly, so please arrive early. :-)

A 33-year-old Garfield Ridge man has been charged with one felony count of aggravated DUI relating to the June 24, 2023 death of bicyclist Józef Strus.
Michael Kelly, of the 5500 block of South Natchez, was arrested by the Great Lakes Fugitive Task Force in conjunction with Major Accident Detectives at 5:30 p.m. Monday, July 8 in the 5100 block of South Wentworth.
Police said Kelly drove a vehicle while drunk and struck Strus as he rode his bike in the 5600 block of South Natchez. Kelly is due at a detention hearing today.

Lemonade stand season is in full swing across the Southwest Side, as demonstrated today by Amelia Jeziorny, Giuliana Cacciottolo and Olivia Caron, who set up shop on Normandy Avenue in Garfield Ridge.
Dressed for the occasion, the girls used their charm, sales skills and hot weather to raise funds for their block party, scheduled for October. Way to go, girls! :-).

A hearty "Welcome home!" to U.S. Army Sgt. Joshua Cambria, a 407th Expeditionary Civil Engineer Squadron firefighter, after a 340-day deployment serving our country in Southwest Asia. A graduate of Kinzie School and St. Laurence High School, Sgt. Cambria received a hero's welcome last Saturday at the airport from family, friends, CFD and CPD and others--and then the celebration continued at home in Garfield Ridge with festivities that included an American Veterans Motorcycle Riders Association honor guard and others.
