Southwest Chicago Post Southwest Chicago Post on Facebook offers instant access to news and opinion of Chicago's Southwest Quite the contrary, in fact. ([email protected])

The Southwest Chicago Post is an independent news service for the people of Chicago's Southwest Side. Our aim is to promote prosperity, progress and peace in the neighborhoods we serve---primarily the neighborhoods on all four sides of Midway Airport, but our coverage will include items of interest to all Southwest Siders. We intend to champion local homeowners, locally owned and operated small bu

sinesses and professional practices, schools, libraries, parks, houses of worship and more. We strongly support local efforts to prevent crime and make neighborhoods safer. We do cheerfully assist and promote members of our local business and professional community, particularly those that are independent, locally owned and which hire local residents. We at the Southwest Chicago Post do not consider ourselves to be in competition with any existing community newspapers serving the Southwest Side. We will offer our content to them to enhance their products. We encourage everyone to support them as local businesses. This online news service is locally owned and operated by lifelong Southwest Siders Joan Hadac (Editor and Publisher) and Tim Hadac (Managing Editor), both of whom have worked as local newspaper reporters and editors for over 25 years each. We encourage all our readers to post comments on the news stories and opinion pieces that we post. All comments will be reviewed before being posted. We do allow anonymous comments, yet we will not allow the Southwest Chicago Post to serve as a forum for bigotry of any kind. We also will not allow personal attacks against anyone, including elected officials and other public figures. On this site, all of us need to keep our tone respectful and our criticisms constructive. We welcome your constructive criticism and suggestions for improvement.

Here's hoping the new Cook County State's Attorney will take such cases with appropriate seriousness, unlike Kim Foxx.

A man accused of randomly attacking a woman in the Loop earlier this month, knocking her to the ground in a crosswalk, is only facing a misdemeanor battery charge, according to court records.

When good people stand together, the community's small minority of criminals stands no chance.
We thought of that this week as we drove up and down a handful of streets in West Elsdon, where a few pissant punks have been bending street signs, apparently to try and mark gang turf.
But truth is, it's not their turf. It's yours, it's ours, the overwhelmingly large majority of law-abiding men and women of the community.
So, when you see a bent street sign (as we did, north of 55th Street, on. Keeler, Tripp and Kolin) report it immediately to 311, as well as the alderman's office, as we did.
Fact is, we get what we put up with. And none of us should put up with gangbanger wannabes. Ever. Nope, Not here.

If you want your children to be exposed to the performing arts in a memorable way, please don't miss this classical ballet performance.
Young students of the Boitsov Classical Ballet School are the centerpiece of this event. The school, currently housed at 5638 W. 63rd St., is owned and operated by Madame Elizabeth Boitsov, an internationally acclaimed Russian ballet teacher who began training in the art when she was a small child, more than 60 years ago.
In addition to the Boitsov students, there will be dancers from professional ballet companies, some of whom are Boitsov alumni.
Dancers will perform to excerpts from Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella.
No charge to attend. Seats will fill quickly, so please arrive early. :-)

The high winds we've just experienced, with gusts of up to 60 mph, have doubtless damaged thousands of roofs in the Chicago area.
If yours is one of them, and you need a tarp to cover it, please text Geno Randazzo of All Exterior Contractors at 708-705-7900.
All Exterior Contractors also is experienced with flood mitigation—so if you have flooding, they’re a good company to contact.
On Tuesday morning, please go outside and look at your home's roof. If you see even one loose shingle, that's all it takes for rainwater to find its way in your home, starting as just a trickle but possibly causing thousands of dollars in water damage to ceilings and walls--including mold.
If you don't see damage but want a roofing professional to inspect at no charge, please be careful whom you choose. Best to reach out to a company that's established in the community, licensed/bonded/insured and well respected. And reach out to such a company BEFORE you call your insurance company.
DO NOT file a claim until you have a complete inspection done, as you do not want to have a claim against you where the damage does not exceed your deductible.
That’s doubly important because a respected home repair pro, like Geno Randazzo of All Exterior Contractors, will serve as your advocate and has a track record of ensuring that insurance companies pay homeowners what they should. 708-705-7900.

Regardless of political backgrounds or beliefs, let us all take a moment to pray and/or send healing thoughts regarding former President Trump and others shot at the rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. We agree with Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who just posted, "Now is the time for every American who loves our country to step back from the division, renounce all violence, and unite in prayer for President Trump and his family."

All are invited to attend a free, live virtual tour of the Chicago region's water infrastructure and history at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 17.
Travel back in time to early Chicago to see how we reversed the Chicago River and developed wastewater treatment technology. Go behind the scenes and under water to see how the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago transforms the water we use every day; descend 300 feet into the deep tunnel system, and watch the MWRD electrofishing crew at work sampling fish on the Chicago River. See goats and sheep at work maintaining native prairie landscaping.
