Dinu Lipatti’s short career was cut tragically short by leukemia, and his Bach recordings remain among the most shining gems of his small but enormously impressive discography. András Schiff made an early impression with his Bach recordings made in Japan during the late 1970s, and is acknowledged as one of the greatest Bach players alive today.

Coming 21 February from Toblach Ausgabe — Fritz Busch – Beethoven Symphony No. 9! Fritz Busch was one of the leading conductors of the 20th century's first half, but his recorded legacy is small when compared with many of his contemporaries.
The newest series from Toblach Ausgabe brings back to international availability Busch's postwar recorded legacy - great recordings issued on 78 and very early LP.
The third release features a live season-opening performance of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony recorded live in Copenhagen on September 9, 1950, remastered by Urlicht AudioVisual from archival sources.

Michael Rabin is surely one of the greatest violinists in history – a prodigiously gifted virtuoso who meteorically blazed across the musical firmament before his untimely death in 1072 at age 35. His official discography is small, but recent years have seen the addition of numerous rediscovered live performances to his growing discography, most notable four CDs previously issued by Parnassus that contain his complete radio performances on The Bell telephone Hour. The current release contains a major addition to the Rabin discography – the Beethoven Violin Concerto, recorded around 1960 with the National Orchestral Association conducted by John Barnett, along with the first general release of an outstanding concert performance of Paul Creston’s Violin Concerto No. 2 with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra conducted by Henry Sorkin. For violin music lovers, this release will be a “must-hear” event!

“Last September I included in this column Parnassus's "Michael Rabin on The Bell Telephone Hour', promising a forthcoming second volume, which has now appeared and like the first include: some dazzling tracks. Both volumes are mandatory purchases for violin buffs. But more important still tor tans of this great but ill-fated Ivan Galamian pupil is a coupling of two tull-length concertos that he never had the chance to take into the studio. Paul Creston's Second (which Rabin commissioned) and, most treasurable the Beethoven Concerto.… Both recordings only go to illustrate Rabin's level of musical and technical superiority while at the height of his powers. Gene Guadette's remastering is excellent and so are Leslie Gerber's notes.”

This extract is Debussy's “Les collines d'Anacapri”: “Les Collines d´Anacapri, which is an Italian folk song, is composed in a different way, but it is always joyful, sparkling music.” —Radoslav Kvapil Radoslav Kvapil is world renowned for his performances of Czech piano music in particular, and more recently all the great works of Beethoven, Chopin, Mozart and now Debussy. Debussy's Claire de Lune in a remarkable performance from Radoslav Kvapil at the age of 90!

The legendary pianist Radoslav Kvapil recently performed a Debussy recital in the Břevnov Cloister in Prague at age 90! This extract is Debussy's “Clair de lune”: “Deussy wrote Suite bergamasque in 1890. It has four parts: Prelude, Menuet, Clair de Lune and Passepied. Three of these parts include good music, but Clair de Lune is exceptional. It was Immediately performed as an independent work and became one of the most popular Debussy works. Debussy´s innate genius is expressed here, in which he proves himself to be a magician in colours. Its harmony is still not so distant from that of the romantic period, but the ideas he is expressing here are totally different.” —Radoslav Kvapil Radoslav Kvapil is world renowned for his performances of Czech piano music in particular, and more recently all the great works of Beethoven, Chopin, Mozart and now Debussy.
