The prestigious Dubai World Cup meeting, recognised worldwide as one of horseracing’s premier sporting and social occasions, will take place on Saturday, 5 April 2025. The race symbolizes the grand finale of the extended 16-meeting Dubai Carnival. Hosted at the iconic Meydan Racecourse, the 29th renewal of racing’s most spectacular fixture will be staged a week later than has previously been the case, forming the culmination of a week of Eid Al Fitr celebrations across the UAE.

Farewell to a Good Man — Alan Kirshner

Alan Kirshner, who passed away on March 17, 2024, was one of the Arabian breed’s leaders. Through his roles as Chairman of the Arabian Horse Trust, Advisory Committee Member of the Arabian Jockey Club, and Chairman of the Eastern Arabian Racing Alliance, he figured prominently in solving many of the challenging issues that have faced Arabian breed organizations over the years, both as a negotiator and as a representative for various boards, providing not only his wisdom and business acumen, but a moral compass, too.

Here are the fields for the two Group 1 Arabian stakes races at the 2024 Saudi Cup—the $1.5 million Al Mneefah Cup on turf on Friday, February 23, and the $2 million Obaiyah Arabian Classic on dirt on Saturday, February 24. Asfan Al Khalediah, the defending champion in the Al Mneefah, is aiming for the Obaiyah, and Tilal Al Khalediah, the defending champion in the Obaiyah, is aiming for the Al Mneefah. Took quite a big tumble while cycling in Virgin Gorda a little while ago! I hit a pothole and crashed hard, resulting in another hematoma on my hip and a nasty cut elbow, but amazingly nothing broken. We were cycling with Alex Wilson, who fell after me, but thankfully he was ok as well. I’m counting myself very lucky, and thankful for keeping myself active and healthy. After all, the brave may not live forever but the cautious do not live at all!
