Life in Bellingham these days is looking a lot different and nothing like what I expected a few months ago. A pandemic can do that. The past couple weeks have been extremely heavy with grief. Grief for how life used to be before the world shut down, grief for not being able to be in community, grief for the end of a relationship, grief for Bernie who I had to rehome, grief for lives lost, and grief for those closest to me feeling their own grief. It’s been so easy for me to focus on the bad things happening, so it’s time to try and focus on the good. As quarantine has gone on, the more I’ve wanted to give back to the place that’s given me so much these past seven months. So I’d like to introduce you to the #NotesFromThePorch series. People living in Bellingham sharing what they’re doing, something they’ve learned, or just their general thoughts on life during a pandemic. My hope is to highlight that while we’re all physically apart, we’re never alone in this. For every portrait session done during Notes From The Porch, I’ve asked a donation be made to Whatcom Community Foundation Resilience Fund in place of charging for photos - so that the money can go directly to the people in our community who need it most during covid-19.
