The idea for FeatureStory stemmed from an overwhelming appreciation for the craft and finesse of modern news reportage. At our core, all
humans are storytellers—it’s how our stories are presented that dictates their impact. Technology and the 24-hour news cycle often leaves the written word to be engaged with only on the literal level—readers frequently skim stories without further examination of the author’s perspective, objectivity, background or intentions. By speaking to authors and journalists directly, FeatureStory helps to provide a greater context to today’s reporting, one that steps outside the traditional editorial cycle and into the core of narrative storytelling. FeatureStory explores why stories are written the way they are, speaking with authors about their personal perspectives and the challenges they face with each story. Founded in 2011, we aim to be a reference and an archive, chronicling the specific writing processes and decisions behind this generation’s notable voices.
