On this 35th World Aids Day we mark 20 years of the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). PEPFAR has saved 25 million lives, prevented millions of HIV infections and accelerated progress toward controlling the disease in more than 50 countries.

So today I, and my fellow members of the Bipartisan Policy Center's PEPFAR Working Group, call on Congress to reauthorize this extremely successful lifesaving program. PEPFAR has historically enjoyed bipartisan support in Congress and from Americans across the political spectrum. In fact, a recent BPC poll conducted by Morning Consult showed that 82% of voters believe it is important for the United States to take the lead on global health efforts, with 51% saying it is very important. And this at a time when its not so easy to find issues 82% of American can voters agree on! See here: https://bipartisanpolicy.org/blog/poll-shows-bipartisan-backing-for-continued-u-s-commitment-to-pepfar-sens-frist-daschle-react/

Come on, Congress. Get it together and reauthorize PEPFAR. The American people, and citizens the world, are watching.
