BREAKING — The Roux Institute at Northeastern University is shutting down the Techstars accelerator.

A representative of Northeastern told MSI that the Roux has canceled its contract with Techstars, which managed the accelerator, because it has "built the capacity to scale this critical work in house."

Lars Perkins, who led the The Roux Institute Techstars Accelerator for its first two years, told MSI he was “disappointed” in the decision, but looked forward to staying involved in Maine’s startup community.

Maine ranked 39th in the US for innovation, according to a report from WalletHub, a personal finance site. The report looked at 22 metrics, including share of STEM professionals, R&D spending per capita & tech-company density. We did even worse for the “innovation environment” subcategory—47th overall.

Concerning or clickbait?

Maine ranked No. 39 out of the 50 states and D.C. for its level of innovation, according to a new report from WalletHub.

DAVO Technologies, maker of DAVO Sales Tax, is the latest Portland area company to be acquired. Seattle-based Avalara (NYSE: AVLR) announced after the markets closed on Tuesday that it had acquired DAVO for an undisclosed sum. Peter Murray, DAVO's CEO, tells MSI that Avalara has offered jobs to all 14 of DAVO's employees and plans to invest in the operation, which will remain based in Westbrook.

DAVO Technologies, a Westbrook-based company that provides sales tax-automation software, has been acquired by a Seattle-based firm.
