Quick back story - last year at some point, an author I like posted about a motel she was staying at and it looked really cute. I started following their Instagram page and quickly decided I needed to stay there someday.

Fast forward to this year planning our Colorado trip - as soon as we had our driving schedule routed out, I immediately made reservations at the aforementioned motel.

is a road tripper’s dream. This recently renovated roadside motel is quirky and charming, but also conveniently located in downtown Mancos. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. Just a quick walk from your room is M Bar & Coffee, serving cocktails in the evenings and breakfast items in the morning (I recommend the margarita)!

Everyone we spoke to here - from the owners to the staff at M Bar & Coffee - were so warm and welcoming. From the pleasant people and the affordable price to the convenient location (about 10 minutes from Mesa Verde National Park), I can’t recommend Mesa Verde Motel enough!

Will you be saving this motel for future travels?!

Hike 6/52 for the year - we did an assortment of trails through Garden of the Gods. It was gorgeous and a beautiful start to our trip. I wanted to make sure we acclimated to the altitude slowly so starting with some easier trails was the best way to go.

Had myself a slow coastal morning today. Went for a run along Marginal Way, then went back out for a stroll with my sister, Jarrett and his mom. The weather was absolutely beautiful.

While I grew up in Maine, I spent most of my youth in Central Park of the state or the mid coast, so it’s been really lovely getting to spend time in Ogunquit. I’d normally avoid this area in the summer due to the popularity and congestion from tourists, but being here for a wedding give us a great excuse to explore. I can see why it’s such a popular vacation destination!

Have you been to Ogunquit, Maine?

Nature is the coolest - look at this beautiful Common Collared Lizard we saw at Mesa Verde National Park - the colors are so gorgeous!! We saw quite a few in the western part of the state. They can grow up to 15 inches long!

When you zoom in, their face/lips look like Roz from Monsters, Inc. 🤣🤣

Will I stop posting Colorado content? Probably someday, but that day isn’t today 🤣

I’m still editing my camera photos which is so fun but a lot of work! If I’ve been neglecting engagement with anyone, I’m sorry, I’ll get back into a regular routine soon. I hope everyone is having a good week 💙

The first slide might be my favorite picture I’ve ever taken. I got very lucky seeing these cutie twins at Rocky Mountain National Park. Growing up in Maine I used to see moose all the time but by the time I was in college I saw them less and less. It’s been over 10 years since I’ve seen a moose in the wild so getting to 8 of them during our couple of days in RMNP was so special.

The pictures were taken with my Sigma 100-400mm lens. I was a safe distance away from mama and babies. Always respect wildlife and give them plenty of space 🫎

Colorado day 11 (our final day) started out nice and lazy. We went to Staunton State Park for a hike and then relaxed at my friend’s house before she brought us to the airport for our red eye home. We took one quick walk around her neighborhood at sunset before leaving.

Our Colorado vacation was incredible and I have SO many camera pictures to edit and so much to share. We packed a lot into 11 days - if you have questions about planning your own trip, let me know!

Day 8 in Colorado - it was all about Rocky Mountain National Park! At the last minute we rented micro-spikes and poles for our hike to Emerald Lake and I’m so glad we did - there was a ton of snow! We tried to get to Lake Haiyaha but with about a half mile left to go, we turned around. The snow pack was melting and with the sheer drop offs, we didn’t feel comfortable continuing higher. At Emerald Lake we saw a proposal though which was exciting! We also saw a bunch of wildlife including a mama moose with her two babies 🥹 (animal pictures to come soon!)

Colorado Day 5 started with a drive to the bottom of Black Canyon of the Gunnison to explore the river area, then back to the top for a quick, beautiful hike to Warner Point.

Second day in Colorado was spent getting sandblasted at Great Sand Dunes National Park (Park 18 for us!) and then a quick hike to Zapata Falls.

Do you know what makes Sand Beach at Acadia National Park so special?

The beach is mostly made up of a unique sand created from shell fragments, broken apart by years and years of crashing waves. It’s so beautiful when you grab a handful and look at it up close!

It’s a fairly small beach and is very congested in the summer months - but be prepared if you go, the water is cold, the average water temperature rarely exceeds 55° 😳

I was recently here on an April day with my friend Shelly and we had the place to ourselves! We saw so many interesting natural features and creatures - including two sand dollars 🙂

Last Labor Day weekend Jarrett and I decided to tackle one of New Hampshire’s 4,000 footer mountains in the Presidential range. We settled on Mt. Eisenhower via Edmunds Path.

The trailhead for Edmunds Path is located off a side road. The lot is small but you can park on the side of the road. During the winter, this side road isn’t plowed so plan accordingly!

The trail has a moderate grade and all things considered, is probably the easiest trail in the Presidential’s. The views are spectacular on a clear day! We headed up the summit but you could also continue onto Crawford’s Path to bag some other peaks.

This was my 4th 4,000 footer out of New Hampshire’s 48.

🥾Approx. 6.7 miles round trip
⛰️Approx. elevation gain 2,775 ft.
🌲Moderate to Hard (depends on fitness level)
💰Free
🦮 Dogs allowed
🚽 No bathrooms

As always, please practice the 7 principles of Leave No Trace and stay on the trail.

11 years ago we were vacationing in St. John with my wonderful friend Cassie. It was a dream vacation and the first real trip Jarrett and I took together.

St. John is a beautiful island surrounded by the Caribbean Sea. 60% is covered by Virgin Islands National Park so there are hiking opportunities available, but you can also go boating, snorkeling and swimming. For visitors who prefer more of less strenuous vibe, there are lots of quaint shops and restaurants to visit! The island has a little something for everyone.

Have you been to St. John or any of the other US Virgin Islands?

Low tide reveals the secrets of the coast ✨

The squish of wet seaweed.

The mucky shoreline that tries to claim you (and your boots) as its own.

The strands of kelp that are like the never-ending ribbons magicians pull out of their pockets.

A hidden crab beneath worn rocks.

Birds dancing and diving.

The ocean is magic 💫

If there is a Ghost Town in the area of my travels, there’s a good chance I’m gonna make a detour to see it! After stopping at Mono Lake, we continued north towards Lake Tahoe and on the way, we stopped at Bodie State Historic Park.

Gold was “first” discovered in the area in 1859 but the city didn’t really boom until 1875, with the population surging to about 8,000 between 1877 and 1881. During this time they had 30 different mines (and also more than 60 saloons 🥴). The town attracted a lot of unsavory characters and gained a bad reputation. Almost as quickly as it started, the town began to decline. Mines began to close and people moved away. Mining continued until the 1940s but never quite in the same way.

The town, or what remains of it (only about 5% of what was there during its peak), is now preserved by the park in a state of “arrested decay”, which means that buildings are repaired and stabilized, not restored.

It’s really fun seeing the old homes and buildings, peeking in the windows to see what was left behind. You can do a self-guided walking tour through the town, learning all about it and the people that lived there. We saw lots of families there and dogs are also allowed (on a leash). Toilets are available by the parking lot!

Do you like ghost towns? 👻

Have you ever played indoor mini golf?

Last week my department at work did a team event in Boston and went to in Boston for some team building. It was so much fun! They had multiple courses (9 holes each) that you could play. The technology was very cool - it was all automated based on the ball assigned to you so nobody had to worry about keeping score!

They have a full kitchen there and while we only had a buffet of a handful of items, everything we had was delicious. There was also a bar and you could have drinks on the course with you. It was a lot of fun and I saw people of all ages there.

Is this something you’d like to do?

Sunrise or sunset?

It’s pretty special witnessing sunrise - the early morning glow giving way to the sun bursting through the clouds. I don’t get up early enough, often enough, to enjoy it, but really need to do it more.

Meanwhile, I get to see sunsets more often, but they never get old. I love the pastel colored clouds and the bold orange skies.

I can’t decide which I love more - what about you? Are you Team Sunrise or Team Sunset?

29/04/2024

An easy but worthwhile hike in Arches National Park is a two for one stop! Double Arch and the Windows Loop can be accessed from the same parking lot. There’s also a bonus trail here too if you want to see Turret Arch up close (we chose to skip this and just view it from a distance).

The hike to Double Arch is super short and flat, but expect crowds and lots of sun exposure, so plan accordingly. The arch is incredible!

Next, hop on over to do the Windows Loop. You can walk up and under the arches, but there is a trail that goes around the exterior of them, which is what we did. Sitting in the shade of the Windows is a great place to rest for a drink and a snack before tackling the rest of the loop

You can scramble around on the rocks under the arches but please be respectful of these natural wonders, we don’t know if they’ll be around forever so it’s important to treat them well!

🥾Approx. 1.3 mile to do both hikes
⛰️Approx. elevation gain 98 ft.
🌲Easy to Moderate (depends on fitness level)
💰$15-$30 park fee
🦮 No dogs allowed
🚽 Pit toilets at parking lot

As always, please practice the 7 principles of Leave No Trace and stay on the trail.

It was so AWESOME!! getting to meet IG friends in real life and connecting with other New England hikers at The Boston Outdoor Expo!

The was a great way to spend a Saturday morning. They showcased a lot of New England brands (I obviously had to buy a few things 😏). There was an impressive panel of speakers throughout the day plus demonstrations and hands-on experiences to participate in too.

Don’t worry, food and beverages are available for purchase! It’s also a family event and welcomes people of all ages! It’s going on all day tomorrow as well so if you’re in the area, check it out! Hopefully this will be an annual event 🙂

Where the ocean 🌊 meets the pines 🌲

I can’t believe it’s already been a week since I was running around one of my favorite places in the world. Any time I get to spend in Maine is time well spent. I took a lot of pictures with my Sony ZV-E10 camera that I can’t wait to share! I’ve been trying to get more practice with my to prepare for vacation in a few weeks 🤓

I hope everyone has a great weekend - I’ll be at the Saturday so stay tuned for lots of footage of the event!
