In accordance with Izmir’s Mediterranean identity, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality will organize the “1st Izmir Mediterranean Film Festival” with the aim of creating a common area for to run the films within the Mediterranean Cinema Culture and furthermore creating a synergy by bringing together the relevant individuals and institutions. The first “1st Izmir Mediterranean Film Festival” will be h
eld between 1 - 9 November, 2013. Within the context of the festival, there will be a feature-length fictional, a documentary and a short film division. Only films that fall under these categories will be accepted to the festival. The films that are on show will fall under two categories; competitive and uncompetitive. Feature-length fictional films can be nominated to be shown in the competitive section. The competing films are evaluated by an international jury that is composed of directors, scenarists, producers, film critics, actors, cinema historians and suchlike reputable people in the cinema sector. The films which are released before 2012 and the films that had a commercial distribution in Turkey will not be eligible for the competition. Both directors and producers of the films that are accepted to the competition will be hosted by the Festival during the festival period. The films can also be selected to be shown in the uncompetitive sections of the festival. Documentary films which are completed between the years of 2011 to 2013 and feature-length fictional films can apply for to be shown in the uncompetitive section. Three DVDs of the film (in PAL format) and printed materials regarding the film (press kit, press folder, brochures etc) should be sent to the festival bureau for participation. The delivery and sending of copies of the films that are selected by the festival will be covered by the festival. The films from Mediterranean countries and the films from other countries which contain the Mediterranean theme within themselves can apply to the festival. Along film screenings, the festival will also have a broad area of impact due to various organizations like exhibitions, premiere, trainings and press conferences etc.
1st İzmir Mediterranean Film Festival will be organized by İzmir Metropolitan Municipality. After the evaluation of the films, the Jury gives Flying Fish Award in the categories of The Best Film, The Best Director, The Best Actor, The Best Actress, and Jury Special Award. In the evaluation of the Best Film and the Best Director, the Jury can give these two awards to separate films or to the same film. According to the evaluation of the Jury, the awards will be given as stated below:
· The Best Film: Flying Fish Award and 25.000 Euro
· The Best Director: Flying Fish Award and 15.000 Euro
· The Best Actor: Flying Fish Award and 10.000 Euro
· The Best Actress: Flying Fish Award and 10.000 Euro
· Jury Special Award: Flying Fish Award and 10.000 Euro
