The entire staff of The Treksperts Roundtable are lifelong Star Trek fans, as far back as the original syndicated run of Those Old Scientists, er… The Original Series… in the early 70’s. We’ve treated every series, from TOS (including TAS) through Star Trek: Enterprise, as part of one big Star Trek universe. We’ve never cherry-picked one series over another. We never had to.
Despite differences in tone and theme, all previous Treks had one thing in common… competent writers’ rooms with professional science fiction writers who KNOW Star Trek at a core level, down to its’ very DNA.
With the exception of Terry Matalas’ masterful work on Season 3 of Star Trek Picard, current live action Trek is completely broken.
The only current Treks worth their salt are both animated series, Lower Decks and Prodigy. Like Terry Matalas; Mike McMahan and The Hageman Brothers have demonstrated their knowledge… and their LOVE… for Star Trek; and both of their creative teams DESERVE to continue creating for, and in, the realm of Star Trek, and they continue to contribute quality content that expands the Star Trek universe.
We wish that we didn’t agree with Paul Chato about the state of modern-day Trek as fervently as we do.
(If you disagree, you’re certainly entitled to your opinion; and we’ll never tell you that you’re not entitled to it. But, as far as we’re concerned, it tells us that you’re not TRULY paying attention.)
But sadly, we do. Every word. 🖖🏼😔
Season one of Strange New Worlds offered a frustrating ray of hope, but season two is utter garbage. So sad...
