Kay-Dee Records is coming at you with a 45 double-hitter, presenting BETA HECTOR’s ‘The Phoenix’ and ‘The Kraken’ with Kenny Dope on remix duties 💥 https://kaydeerecords.com/collections/all-1/products/the-kraken-the-phoenix-bert-hector
On the first record, we’re treated to ‘The Phoenix’: a sure-fire funk gem with a super warm sound. The beat is as cool as it gets, with a laid-back and funky attitude, sitting beneath a joyous intermingling of sitar, flute, brass and guitar - all performed at expert levels.
‘The Kraken’ has a killer groove, struttin’ along at 85 bpm with a real old-school sound on the beat. Joining the breaks is a huge brass section which pumps loud, while flute solos and funky Wah-wah guitar chops take things up a notch. This is a pure, unadulterated groove.

For this we've got a real treat, featuring both the original and Kenny Dope remix of Tyrone Washington’s timeless gem, ‘Submission’ 🔥
A mysterious artist who seemingly disappeared from the scene after his last release in the mid 70’s, Washington created forward-thinking Jazz magic which has been loved ever since its original release - and sampled multiple times by the likes of A Tribe Called Quest and Pete Rock.
On the Kenny Dope remix, we are served some heavy hip-hop breaks which pump underneath the inimitable brass of the original, chopped up to add some extra spice and groove. A master of beats, Kenny does the business on this remix and the results are truly special.

After last year's musical excursions to Central & South America and South Africa, Berlin-based reissue label "Matasuna Records" is once again making a detour to the USA for its first release in 2023. Two funk milestones by "United 8" and "Tony Alvon & The Belairs" have been selected from the archives of "Atlantic Records". Apart from a release as part of a Funk45's box set by Warner in 2004, the songs have only appeared on various bootlegs in the past.
Matasuna Records is thrilled to finally release them as an officially licensed reissue with new mastering as a 7-inch vinyl single. This release is an absolute must-have for all funk enthusiasts, DJs and collectors.
"Getting Uptown (To Get Down)" by "United 8" is a funk classic released on Atlantic Records in 1972. The musicians of United 8 created an infectious sound with a combination of horns, guitars, drums and bass. The drums drive the beat and give thetrack its distinctive rhythm, while the bass provides a powerful, pulsating foundation. The horns add a jazzy note, while the guitar adds a funky touch.
The result is an energetic, danceable sound that still sounds fresh and exciting today. The song is timeless and has lost none of its appeal. It's no wonder that it has been featured on many funk compilations since the 2000s.
"Sexy Coffee Pot" by "Tony Alvon & The Belairs" is an explosive and energetic funk joint from 1969 that immediately captivates the listener. The rhythm section lays down a steady, infectious groove, while the guitar and horns provide a funky, dynamic sound that complements each other perfectly.
It's no surprise that "Sexy Coffee Pot" has been sampled and covered by so many hip-hop artists over the years, such as "Eric B. & Rakim", "Cypress Hill" or "DJ Shadow", to name a few. B-boys and B-girls also appreciate the upbeat vibe of this song, which has become a staple on battles.

Happy from the Kay-Dee HQ! 🎉
Present Tense / I'm Just A Primitive BeBop Caveman - Mosaic
Two wonderful tracks taken from the rare, & hard to find, vinyl LP from 1978. MOSAIC - selftitled/private press, jazz fusion, album which includes two killer tracks "Present tense", an uptempo bass jazzfusion vocal - the perfect winter warmer. On the flip is "I'm Just A Primitive Bebop Caveman", a mid tempo instrumental cut, with a super jazz break intro and funky bass groove. A must have 7" for the collector, and good music lovers. Both first time on 7" vinyl.
