Reflecting on a very satisfying weekend of music, with two very different styles of DJ set going back to back with talented mates.
Friday at the Plough with Jonathan Coles aka DJ Dad was a bucketlist moment and the crowd didn't disappoint with their response. We played uptempo bangers to a heaving, sweat-drenched room and I even had to cut the music for a sec to tell em to calm down at one point (Boo! Funspoiler). Rave, dancehall, amapiano, Bollywood, MENA and Afrobeats were the order of the day, skirting through the genres like a gert skirty thing.
Saturday afternoon was a more chilled-out affair, but no less eclectic, at Motion Lock Yard for Balearic Burger. A lovely setting by the river, with a whole afternoon of sunshine vibes. Joe Mugford and I played everything from Sun-el Musician to Sade, Julian Cope to Luke Vibert and even a very exclusive lovers rock version of 'Sometimes'by Erasure. Again, laughing in the face of genre consistency, but increasingly that's become the default with these sets.
Truly two of my favourite times DJing. Vibes were totally on point, and I love the thrill of playing alongside other people, where you don't know where we're going to go next
