👀 Video clip in the comments! 👀

Yesterday, we released Episode 119. We talked about playing drums for yourself and not for anyone else and a pretty heavy topic we entitled “8 minutes”. We couldn’t let this golden nugget slip through the cracks though!

If you haven’t listened to the new episode, it’s available wherever you listen to your podcasts! If you already listened, let us know your takeaways in the comments! ⬇️

2023 was a life changing year for us. Not just for the podcast, but for our families. We hope you all had an amazing Christmas and start to the year. We’re excited to see what 2024 has in store.

Today, we published our first episode of the year. Matt kicks it off with a story about getting booed on stage during his drum solo. After a brief tangent about Tim’s new IEMs, we proceed to address new drummers (and/or drummers who would like to get back into drumming this year) with advice on how to succeed and stick with it. Tim transitions topics by sharing his New Years resolution while in the same breath, expressing his disdain for the idea of waiting for the first of the year to “start fresh”. Then Matt opens up about a bad habit he worked to break.

Episode 116 is available anywhere you listen to your podcasts. Happy new year!

Today we remember drumming legend and friend, Aaron Spears, after his unexpected passing. On the episode, we reminisce about our first time hearing Aaron play drums and what made him stand out as a drummer, then we talk about who he was as a person and how his character far outshined his success as a musician. Matt shares some stories of moments with Aaron, and we share some laughs and shed some tears in his honor. We finish out with a clip from Aaron’s episode (32) on the podcast. Episode 112 is available wherever you listen to your podcasts.

Aaron, we miss you and we’ll never forget you. We hope this episode makes you smile up there. ✌️♥️

Admittedly, I’ve been really bad at keeping up with posting about new episodes. I thought it would be important to let you all know that we have a really special one releasing at midnight. We’re going to be honoring drumming legend and friend, Aaron Spears.

That being said, we have kept up with releasing episodes every 10th and 25th of the month, so we’ve had a few new ones published since I last shared an episode cover on here.

If you’ve listened to them already, we’d love to hear about it! If you haven’t yet listened, episodes 109, 110, and 111 are all available wherever you listen to your podcasts.

Love you all, and we’ll catch you on the next one at midnight. ♥️

RIP Aaron Spears ♥️

If you’ve listened to this podcast, you’ve heard us talk about Aaron. He was an inspiration, a hero, and a friend. The world lost an amazing human being and heaven gained a legendary drummer. Our deepest condolences to his family. 🙏🏼

Please join us in welcoming the newest member of the Holy Ghost Notes family, Matt and Annie’s baby daughter, Eleanor Jane Greiner! Born on September 14th!

If you listened to our last episode (Ep. 109), I’m sure you heard all about it. But to say we’re excited would be an understatement. Huge congratulations to Matt and Annie!

If you didn’t listen to our last episode, Matt shares some exciting news (😉) and the we are surprised by a couple of unexpected guests which serves as a nice set-up for our topics. Matt kicks off the drum topic of "Teaching" and shares his experience, his approach, and a number of important tips to help both experienced drum teachers, and aspiring drum teachers be the best they can be. Then we switch gears and hit on the topic of "fatherhood". Matt approaches the topic from the perspective of a new dad and talks about the feelings and thoughts he's been experiencing since the birth of his daughter. Tim comes at it from a spiritual point of view and relates it to his understanding of God as a Father, after having a few years to process and reminisce. We both share the same sentiment; that being a dad is the most rewarding experience. Episode 109 is available everywhere AND Episode 110 drops tonight at midnight!! See you there. ✌️

Once again, we have a new episode releasing tonight at midnight and i’m behind on posting anything about our last episode! So here it goes…

If you haven’t listened to episode 108 that dropped on the 10th - Matt was only days away from having a new baby girl as Tim wrapped up “back to school week” and shared some exciting news himself. We talked about using earplugs for sleeping and talked a little about the IEM company, , and our experience with both the products and the company. After a longer than average intro, we headed into our drum topic; touching on the importance of spending time watching (or observing) how other drummers play and how it can benefit your own drumming in many ways. Matt talked about staying home from August Burns Red’s Australian tour which inspired the topic of FOMO (Fear of Missing Out). Through many a divergence from the root topic, in typical fashion, we uncovered many parallels that rounded out our discussion.

Episode 108 is available wherever you listen to your podcasts, and keep your eyes peeled for Episode 109 which will be available at midnight TONIGHT!! 🤘

We’re a little over an hour away from publishing our next episode. If you haven’t listened to our previous episode yet, here’s a little bit about it.

On 107, we rant briefly about Tim's studio progress, what we may picture someone looking like without seeing them based on their voices, size small deep v-neck tees that we never should've worn, a worship song Tim's been writing, and realizing our flaws and pride (all prior to getting into our topics.) After many a joke and tangent, we head into our drum topic on "taking your time" when learning and perfecting drum parts and/or rudiments. We also discuss being open to learning and staying humble, despite how long you've been playing or how popular you've become for your playing. Finally, we approach the topic of "The Main Character Syndrome", as Tim coins it. We hit on the idea of consistently (and incorrectly) associating yourself with the main character in the stories of the Bible, rather than perhaps a secondary character who actually teaches you something about yourself.

Episode 107 is available wherever you listen to your podcasts, and episode 108 drops at midnight!! 💣

Woah. Hey! New episode!

First, we discuss our worst hair styles and chuckle about how brutal some of the Old Testament stories are. Then we approach the topic of ‘pressure’ with force and illustrate it as a necessity when it comes to truly perfecting your craft. We proceed to take on the topic of ‘finances’ and realize quickly that it’s a more faith-based topic than we had initially thought. Episode 106 is available wherever you listen to your podcasts. Have fun! See you there.

We released a new one yesterday. We had fun. What did you think?

On episode 105, we record at the crack of dawn and Matt shares of his recent door hanging zeal. We chat about prioritizing and naturally transition into our requested drum topic on coping with leaving the music industry. Tim tells a little bit about his music background and where his head was at when he ultimately “called it quits”, then Matt adds his perspective as a career musician. This leads into the topic of how to deal with failure. We coast on some cookie cutter ideals, then dig into how your identity plays a big part in facing failure head on.

Available wherever you listen to your podcasts. See you there and thank you for listening! ✌️❤️

We never posted about our last episode, but it just so happens we have another one coming out at midnight tonight!

On episode 104 we talked about Tim's studio progress, Matt's vacations, ABR's upcoming tour with Ice Nine Kills, and about Tim's "work voice" then we joked about his agreeable personality. Matt narrowly avoids getting himself into trouble and then kicks off our drum topic, "Trust Yourself". We talk about how in many cases, we are responsible for the pressure we feel when drumming. We touch on improv scenarios versus practiced scenarios and how it's important to trust your own abilities and relieve the pressure. Tim reads James 1:9-11 and Matt shares about when this verse resonated with him for the first time, asks some challenging questions and speaks about God as a judge.

If you listened to this episode, we’d love to hear your thoughts and we’re excited for you to hear 105 dropping TONIGHT. Peace!✌️

Happy Sunday everyone! As most of you know, a new episode dropped today. “This time on Holy Ghost Notes…” Tim records from his new place for the first time and Matt tells about a moment that threw him for a loop while buying paint. We then struggle to agree on some definitions prior to hitting on our drum topic; fills. We touch on our approach to fills, some iconic fills, and laugh about stating the obvious. Tim shares about a recent experience that inspires telling the story of the Good Samaritan which dovetails into identifying the needs around you and obeying the calling on your life.

Episode 103 is available wherever you listen to your podcasts! We hope you all have a great week! ✌️

Took a short (much needed) break from interacting on social media for a few weeks and consequently missed sharing about the last episode. Being that we’ve got a brand new one out today, I thought it would be a good time to get back to it and share about both of these episodes!

Following up our 100th episode has been exciting. Recording these episodes has felt like hitting new milestones. For whatever reason, breaking 100 broke down some barriers. Our conversations have felt more fluid, there has been less pressure, and it’s been easier to open up and be (unapologetically) ourselves. Needless to say, we’re excited for this new three-figure chapter we’re in and we’re so thankful to have you all along for the ride. ♥️

We hope you enjoy episodes 101 and 102. We had a lot of fun recording them and we’d love to hear your takeaways! Drop ‘em in the comments below. 👇

PEACE. ✌️

100! We made it!! 💯 💯 💯

We’re celebrating our 100th episode and reminiscing by listening and reacting to “favorite” clips from various episodes chosen specifically by our Inner Circle community. Matt reads a note that he had been saving for the episode and a special guest sneaks their way onto the episode! Don’t miss this one. Episode 100 is available wherever you listen to your podcasts. PEACE!!! ✌️

P.S. This cover is a collage of some of our Inner Circle community members. We wanted to make this one special. This is why it’s special. ♥️

It’s all going down TONIGHT at midnight. 😮

Our 100th episode came so quickly and we’re excited to share it with you all. We changed up the format a bit for this one, but we think you’ll enjoy it. We even had a special guest appearance. See you on the other side!

On another note, we got to hang out at the show in Jersey on Sunday evening and actually took a picture or two together for once.

A few days ago we released our 99th episode and finished out the double digits strong.

Matt finds himself recording from the back of the bus while the rest of the band and crew are asleep. We tease our fast approaching 100th episode and then make our way into our drum topic; discussing the relationships between drummers and other musicians. Tim heads down the topic path of “how to work God in” to your life/schedule, only to be struck by the realization/revelation that the very concept of the topic puts God in a box.

If you haven’t listened yet, Episode 99 is available wherever you get your podcasts! Enjoy!

New episode is live now!! We aim to hit all expectations by ranting for a bit to kick things off. Then we head into our drum topic and share some laughs while listing a number of misconceptions around drumming. Being that we recorded on Good Friday, we dig into the topic of Easter. Tim talks through his thought process on the gravity of Jesus being separated from the Father while being crucified and we land on the complex, yet simple idea of how to say, "thank you." Episode 98 is available wherever you listen to your podcasts! ✌️

New episode available now!! Matt talks about ’s new release, Death Below, and Tim realizes that he always has to have the final word. We talk about the things we would tell our younger drummer selves if we had the opportunity, and then venture into a listener-requested topic; loyalty. Tim plays devil’s advocate and presents a number of hypotheticals while Matt grounds the conversation with some spiritual truths. Episode 97 is available wherever you listen to your podcasts! ✌️

96 episodes in! Matt talks about the ABR 20th Anniversary tour as they near the end of the first leg and Tim talks about his change of location amid moving out of his house. We start by tackling the topic of warming up, which we surprisingly haven’t really covered in a prior episode, and we challenge the common understanding of what a drum warm up should be. Then we make our way into the topic of the little things; and how more care and attention should be put into the moments or choices that don’t seem as important when compared to other things in life. Episode 96 is available wherever you listen to your podcasts! ✌️

FUN FACT: Matt recorded this episode from Grand Junction, which is where he received the call from Tim about starting this podcast over 4 years ago. Wild!

We never posted the last episode cover! 🤯

This was a fun one. Matt finds himself, once again, recording from a hotel lobby on his day off from tour. We catch up and then revisit our previous episode topic after reading some listener responses. Matt presents the topic of drumming as a constant vs. a variable and Tim shares his perspective as a drum hobbyist and dad with young kids. We progress into our topic of “read the Bible”, and challenge ourselves while discussing the value of this foundational practice.

Episode 95 is available wherever you listen to your podcasts! ✌️

New episode dropped today peeps!! Matt talks about the upcoming tour and filming the music video for August Burns Red’s new single, Backfire.
Just as exciting; Tim talks about his recent cooking adventures and the price of eggs. We jump into our topic about preparing for a tour and it takes a sentimental turn, then we pivot to the topic of counseling and therapy. Tim expresses his distaste for the negative stigma around asking for help, which leads to a discussion shedding light on both sides of the argument. Episode 94 is available wherever you listen to your podcasts.

If you listen, or have listened to this episode, we proposed a question at the end. We encourage you to share your thoughts in the comments below. ♥️

“THINGS ARE CHANGING IN MY LIFE!” - Jake Luhrs

We kick off the first episode of the year by talking about how we spent our holidays, recommending games, and chuckling about Jake’s viral Gretzky encounter video. Then we jump into our drum topic centered around our “drum heroes” or drummers we have idolized/looked up to. We proceed with our faith topic; summing up our year in 2022 with a singular word and assigning a new word for 2023. What is your word for 2023? Let us know in the comments!

Episode 92 is available wherever you listen to your podcasts! Special thanks to for allowing us to use his mug for the cover! No, he is not on this episode. But maybe we’ll get him in again sometime this year.🤘

Merry Christmas everyone!! 🛷🦌

We decided to finish the year out the right way and have our pal join us for our Christmas episode this year!

In this episode, we catch up a bit and share some laughs. Adam talks about the humble beginnings and ultimate demise of his band, , and hints at the possibility of some upcoming activity. Then he shares a little about what he’s been up to and opens up about overcoming his physical and mental struggles over the past few years, what he’s learned in his deliberate solitude, and his appreciation for the simple things. Through many a laugh and inspiring tale, we hope this episode bring you joy this Christmas! Number 91 is available wherever you listen to your podcasts!

Peace (and joy) - Matt, Tim, and Adam✌️
