We are a national publication focused on bringing the FAST horse worlds together. So many families are involved in more than one aspect of the horse industry and the "Fast" horse disciplines compliment each other so well....giving second careers to race horses and then to barrel horses, etc....there is a need for a common connection!!

Welcome to 2024! Here are the dates for all our 2024 Preferred Shows. We hope you will plan on attending some of these great events during the year. We will be creating a Facebook event for each of these shows where showbills, entry forms/links, draws and results will be posted. Can you see the horse killers in this picture?

That's right those innocuous looking little bits of blue string will kill a horse.

They get eaten and then sit in the gut causing an Enterolith.

This is just a flash word describing a calcium build up around a foreign body inside a horse's gut.

Some horses pass small enteroliths with their manure, but masses larger than a golf ball usually cause recurring colic symptoms as passage of gut contents is impaired. Affected horses may show decreased appetite resulting in a drop in weight. Ultimately large stones lodge in the gut, frequently where the intestine narrows at the pelvic flexure or right dorsal colon, and the gut wall begins to necrotize from abrasion and pressure. Unless the stone is removed, the intestine eventually ruptures and the horse develops fatal peritonitis. When the problem is detected before the intestine perforates, about 95% of horses make a full recovery from surgery to remove the enterolith (https://ker.com/equinews/enteroliths-in-horses/ ).

So make sure you don't feed these nasty little suckers out. Definitely worth the few minutes to pick them up.

Ok we see forecast for the weekend.….chance of rain Friday & Saturday. We are setting up stalls MONDAY. if you think you might want one LET US KNOW NOW. We will not be setting up any extras!

We highly suggest purchasing from those that can not attend anymore. So if you have stalls for sale please post to this!!!

We have very limited room left to set up portables so please again purchase from other first if you can and then if not call or text me!

Our Story

The Horse Resource came about as a magazine built on the idea of bringing horsemen and women a way to connect with what was happening in the horse industry in the Midwest (mainly Indiana and surrounding states.)

It grew into a popular magazine and was in print for 10 years! (Thank you to all of those who supported the print side for so long!)

In this day and age of digital media, we also were able to provide a digital version of the magazine for the last several years that has been shared all across the country and even internationally. (Thanks again!!)

We are now making another change to become more current and you will find featured articles online at the click of your mouse. We are working on building up the archives so you can even go back and read features and event coverage from the past.

About Me:

I love horses. I'm guessing you do too and that's why you stopped by this site. That's how it all started, a love for horses and an attempt to turn something I love into a positive way to make a living and make a difference.

My name is Christa Conway and I have been riding horses since I was old enough to sit on a saddle by myself. I am a third generation barrel racer and my kids make a fourth. I met my husband, Vick, at a horse show. It was probably sometime in the 70s (no, we are not that old...we just met when we were really young.) Our families competed at horse shows together back then and I believe it was an arranged marriage. Someday I may write it all down.

The Horses I've competed at barrel races since I can rememeber and have had made many great memories over the years.

My dad hauled me around the Midwest with a little red roan mare that taught me how to win and to never doubt the underdog. She was only 14.2H tall, but her heart was big enough for both of us.

Highlights include a qualification to the International Finals Rodeo in 2002 and a crushed knee just months before.

Vick and I have shared futurity wins, rodeo wins and watched our kids compete and win on horses we've raised and trained. We've watched others go on to compete and win with horses we trained and forged great and lifelong friendships along the way.

All of these accomplishments and life experiences were possible because of God's grace, a supportive family, wonderful friends, hard work and of course great horses.

The Horse Resource It all started in 2004 when I began writing a Christian Barrel Racer's Newsletter that included inspirational articles and devotional material that I either wrote or that was submitted by others. I distributed the newsletter to hundreds of people via mail and passed them out at the rodeos and barrel races I attended until 2008.

In 2008 the Christian Barrel Racer's Newsletter became the preface for the start of something bigger. My passion for the horses and the equine industry as well as the experience with the newsletter led me to start The Horse Resource in 2008 as a printed magazine. The Christian Barrel Racer's Newsletter became the monthly featured column called "Christian Cowboy Collection."

My goal from the beginning has been to bring great articles, relevant news, upcoming events and event coverage to other horse people like me while keeping a positive and uplifting message of hope that Jesus provides in the forefront.

It grew into a full time career for me and by the grace of God I've been blessed to turn something I love into something I do for a living.

I'll keep doing the work as long as God provides the platform.
