Boy were we thrilled we didn't have to replace Chris's @osmo.action, even after getting it soaked WITHOUT the side door 🤪.
It sure sucked not having heated grips anymore, especially on cold rainy days, but it was a relief to not need to replace my battery. So glad we always try to look and assess the problem before spending money unnecessarily.

Apparently things can go right only for so long before something bad happens. I'm just thankful I was still in the gas station lot when the bike died, vs after pulling out into the road with traffic. It stunk that it died after 9pm because all the shops were closed, so we couldn't even call around to track down a replacement battery until the morning. Atleast we were walking distance to the hotel.

If watching cars being launched off a cliff isn't the coolest way to celebrate the 4th of July, then I don't know what is! We had a fantastic time up in Glacier View at the car launch. I even met the dad of two guys who had bought, decorated, and drove a junk car all the way up there to be launched, who had come all the way from Charleston SC too! Sometimes the more you travel, the more you realise how small of a world it really is.

Between the strong winds, and then some rain, we were thrilled to make it to the warm hotel in Anchorage. While in Anchorage, I was going to replace my chain, have an oil change, and get a new front tire on the Rebel. Chris would have to wait until to following week for his bike to get worked on. But in the meantime we would have some little adventures in southern Alaska.

Riding to Fairbanks
After making some new friends along the Dalton, we headed back to Fairbanks together. What a blast! It was so exciting to meet some fellow adventurers, and at the beginning of their huge journey.

Reaching the Top
June 30th 2022, @caitlynthecurious got her motorcycle endorsment. June 29th, 2023 she made it to Prudhoe Bay, aka Deadhorse, Alaska. I thought I was tough for doing it on a Street Scrambler 4 years earlier, but her pulling up on her Honda Rebel next to all the big adventure bikes and bikes built for roads like this, makes me so proud to be her husband.
We've spent our first year of marriage traveling and supporting one another, but also growing and pushing ourselves as individuals. I've watched her grow into the badass rider she is, and look forward to all the adventures life with bring our way.

The Dalton Highway- Day 1
Well the time had come. We were beginning our ride up the Dalton Highway (Chris for the second time). I hadn't had my motorcycle endorsement for a year quite yet, and was worried about my off-roading skills (or lack there of). But, the further we traveled, the more comfortable I became. I also realized how much easier this road was than the "Road from Hell" in Mexico.
Every mile we road, I was not only going the furthest north I had ever been, but I was adventuring more north than anyone in my family had been.
While setting up our tent in Coldfoot, we met 2 other travelers, who funny enough, had been looking for us! It was great to talk and swap travel stories with Lewis and Cody, even if we did stay up until 2am! It's funny how you lose track of time when the sun never sets.
The next day we'd begin the 240 mile, gasless stretch to Deadhorse, and we'd find out if that 3 gallon fuel bladder would ACTUALLY be enough for the both of us.

The Last Frontier!
From the border to Fairbanks, it's about 300 miles, and because of all the construction, we knew it was going to be a late night. But, even covered in mud, and eaten alive by mosquitos, we were still smiling.
We were so lucky to be riding by and Caitlyn spotting this momma and her calf. They were the first moose we had really seen so far on the trip. (Don't worry, we kept our distance for sure)
We had a lot of prep work before starting the Dalton Highway, so we didn't have much time to explore Fairbanks, but we did enjoy our lunch at East Ramp Wood-Fired Pizza.

Surviving the Yukon
For our last day in the Yukon, we continued through breathtaking scenery. Caitlyn was having a blast on the frost heaves. At times, she looked like she was riding a bull at the rodeo.
And to clarify, I stopped to get a good shot of the grizzly because I knew it didn't have cubs or a fresh kill around. It seemed to be more curious (probably in my sexy Triumph🤪) than anything, but I'm still glad I left when I did.
Traveling the Yukon, all the animals, rivers and mountains we saw, to crossing into Alaska (Caitlyn's 35th state), was just fantastic. Now lets see how well she and the Rebel 500 do on the Dalton Highway.

Motorcycle Issues in the Yukon
After looking into what could be causing some clunking noise on Caitlyn's bike the night before, when leaving Nugget City, Caitlyn couldn't shift into second gear. It took a little while of taking things apart and adjusting her clutch lever, but we got her bike working again (still with the clunking noise). We decided to go back a little to check out the Sign Post Forest and then made our way up the Yukon. It wasn't a huge milage day, but with the late start, we didn't get to Haine's Junction until about 10pm. Luckily this far north, there is still a lot of daylight even late at "night"

I Killed a Bird!
After the work week, we were ready to hit the road, with some fresh tires. The amount of mosquitos we killed was enormous! Caitlyn had something large fly straight at her in the dark, and hit the bike hard. She was pretty sad to see the feathers in the morning. We got into Fort Nelson late, but got everything cleaned and charging for the next day's journey.

As we continued our way up BC and going through more remote places, we were both getting pretty good at spotting wildlife early enough to actually press record in time, and capture it on camera. A Tropical Getaway in Prince George
We stayed at the coolest Super 8 in BC. After getting new tires put on, Caitlyn enjoyed a dip in the pool. It was a little too cold for me. After the work week was complete, we were ready to get back on the road and make our way to the Yukon.

It was an exciting day for Caitlyn, making her way into Canada for the first time. It's too bad it rained making it difficult to see the beautiful mountains and scenery. It was great to take the day to explore the city of Seattle. We watched the famous fish throwing at Pike's Place, saw the Space Needle, and did a walking tour on the old underground streets of Seattle. Of course the experience wouldn't have been complete, if we hadn't gotten rained on.

The crisp air of the Pacific Northwest felt great as we rode from from Portland to Seattle. Since Chris was a fan of Kindergarden Cop, we decided to take the more scenic route back to the PCH, and cross over the Astoria Bridge. By the time we pulled into the hotel, we were wet, freezing and both our cameras were dead. Hopefully we would have a nice dry day tomorrow while exploring the city.

We had a great stay with a Bunk-a-Biker outside San Francisco. We took the PCH through the beautiful Red Woods. Unfortunatly, Caitlyn was battling an upset stomach most of the day, and eventually she lost that battle. Good thing we were going to be staying put at a campground for the work week, which gave her time to rest and recover.

Today we rode across the Golden Gate Bridge. Even in the fog you could still see some incredible views. I don't think Caitlyn realized just how steep the hills are here, before she came up with the idea of riding down Lombard St. Even though she was freaking out at the time, when done, she was so proud of overcoming her fear.
