📚 Learning takes a lifetime. The book that changed my life is — I found this book on my brother-in-law’s bookshelf & I knew who and what I wanted to be. is called the because his way of seeing the world was fresh, fearless and functional. My first & only visit to 🇨🇺 was in 2016 to meet my family & tbh, I was offended and hurt by the way most tourists described the island. 🤬 There are certainly additional things to understand on your travel to cuba & hoping I can shed some positive light ☺️ I’ll be posting my pics & photos because they gotta do more work than sit in my phone. We’ll start with the

Our was owned by a man who lives in but his mother & sister were our actual hosts. They were super kind but super vigilant. They did NOT like that I had guests (my whole family) over but they were super kind & helpful.

They had drinks in the fridge for a cost, which helped I’m not needing to find a grocery store. They also offered to come in and cook breakfast or teach dance classes. We took them up on both offers.

I recommend staying in Havana. Most tourists like to stay in which, much like Old San Juan, is much more tourist friendly. If you’re not terrified of native people and/or speak Spanish, I’d recommend staying in Havana proper to get a feel of the actual culture.

Havana is super safe for tourists. The law does not take kindly to much out there (drugs, violence) especially not against tourists. As told to me by my Cuban family, the penalty they’d have to pay for assaulting an American is rarely, if ever, worth it.

I’d recommend finding a place that has AIR CONDITIONING because it gets pretty hot (even in October) and a BALCONY because you’ll LOVE the crisp, fresh, open air. You may also need to ensure they have back up plumbing and electricity generators. In countries like these, (like the Dominican Republic) sometimes the electricity goes out and the water stops running, but there are efforts made to ensure you don’t feel any if it!

This book was so good!!!! The plot of ’s should be an episode of 🤯 This quick read is both entertaining & gripping as you read to find out what truly happened and what might happen next.

I read this book as part of the book club at work. My job has a group that I made sure to join on my first day. At this point in my career, I absolutely want to meet like minded professionals, but on a chill note. This book is not about race, whatsoever, but it is written by a & i love me a ! Can’t wait to meet for my first book club session 🤓📚🖤

🧇 DO NOT PLAY YOURSELF - all of these waffles are even better than they look. They have sweet (with fruits), savory (bacon & eggs) or spicy (eggs & hotsauce) & they all have a dusting personality.

🧇 This place was so good we went back twice 🤤 I recommend going with people willing to share so that you can taste them all!

🇲🇽🏝 We headed to the beach club in Tulum but most of them were full by the time we got there 🥺 If you want to get to a beach club, I recommend you get up early 👀

🌮 We ended up at which had plenty space & great service. They were still cleaning up the seaweed so we didn’t swim, but we certainly enjoyed ourselves & relaxed for a few hours. was $25/pp and just asked that you spend that much on food & drinks. They also had 2 for 1 drinks!

🇲🇽🏝 Most of the beach front clubs & restaurants charge you per person to rent beds or beach chairs. The ranges we saw were about $25-$35 USD ($500-$700 pesos).

🛖🦎 Our ABB in Tulum basically faced the jungle and we had no neighbors other than a cute lizard. It was the perfect place to just sit back, relax & enjoy the scene. Our ABB hosts were incredibly helpful! They were often in the main pool & bar area with other guests but we kept to ourselves. I’ve watched too many movies to get close to strangers on vacation 😂 but this place felt the right kind of safe & comfortable.

I don’t ever expect to LIKE airport food 👀🛫🌮

🛫 If you land at Mexico’s and find yourself facing the 2 hour ride to or 1hr ride to with having had breakfast, the little restaurant named (😫😂) will try its very best.

🌮In something like they kick off of a taco tour, we tried every taco. For this place, I’d stick to the fish 👀 & SAY NO TO CHEESE! They melt it on & it’s NOT ok 🤢🥺 second winner up was the chicken but... it was like grilled chicken, not taco chicken. But the rice & beans, tho?!?!! 🤤🍚

🌎Everyone’s been posting pictures of Tulum this season & I just had to experience it for myself.

🌴 While our ABB in the jungle was beautiful, the people of Tulum are obviously dealing with issues of their own & an incredibly hard working people just making a living off the rising tourism of the area.

🛖This part of Mexico feels like it’s full of very humble locals or well-off internationals who’ve moved to the country. Still very much a jungle, Tulum is still being built up (as of April 2021) and there are some beautiful properties on the back roads, giving way for plenty amazing AirBNBs.

💃🏽🕺🏽The city closes pretty early (10-11pm) but you can find late night street tacos Cabs are super easy to find. Our excursion was cancelled, so we didn’t do anything but relax. If I were to redo this trip, I think I’d do a couples massage or more spa kind of activities.

🌤 I’d also go in May or later because it was still pretty cool in early April. It was blazing in the sun, but cool in the shade & at night. I think I’d rather NOT go June - August because I can’t imagine the heat. Def left with a heat rash 😫😅😂 oh. & don’t forget your bug spray 🐜

I’ve been on spiritual journey.... ⛪️🕌🕍🛕🕋

Everything else I post here is “fun”. I try to keep myself entertained but, more importantly, I need to keep myself grounded...

⛪️ I grew up Catholic but I gotta say, I’ve never been a “pew baby”. My mom worked in churches so I went to a ton of different places of worship.

🕍 I went to a Friends school & the world pretty much opened up to me. It was my first time actually knowing people who practiced different faiths, not just reading about them or seeing them on TV.

🛕 In college, I found solace in Philosophy and just learning how thought leaders came to their conclusions. Recently, I started learning about stones, astrology and all that “of the earth” stuff.

🕋 As I’ve matured, I’ve tried to find my own path. For me, I need to have information to base my decisions on, so I’ve finally gotten comfortable reading the Quran & I’m really feeling it. Next, I’m really excited to read some Hindu texts.

🕌 I guess Im sharing this because I’ve started to feel more connected to the world... more understanding... more grateful. I don’t know if I’ll ever know the right answers but... I think that “right” is trying to understand people, our similarities and our differences.

🙏🏾 Any tips or recommendations for me as I continue along? Care to share your story? I’m here for it all 🤷🏽‍♀️ but mostly... thanks for your energy as you read this in allowing me to be a growing, changing, ever-learning, human 🖤
