The baby boomers' offspring are barreling toward retirement, but is that really a thing?

They are Generation X and now facing retirement age! Some looked forward to this time in their professional lives since entering the workforce. Some of have no idea what they'll do with their time after they retire. And others are realizing now, after three years of evolving perspectives brought on by the pandemic, that they don’t even want to retire.

Food for thought!

Some of the older Gen Xers decided to retire and found it wasn't a fit for them, prompting them to re-enter the workforce.

None of my 4 adult children live near me. So, when they visit, sometimes they need to do a load or two of laundry. I'm so proud of the fact that every single time they toss a load in the dryer, I hear them check the lint trap before starting the machine. I know adults who don't do that.

I unintentionally make some people feel uncomfortable when they’re simply minding their own business. I’m that person who says hi or nods with a smile at people in the grocery store aisles, in a doctor’s waiting room, at the DMV, or anywhere else. I’m that person that breaks the uncomfortable silence in elevators with a friendly greeting or comment about something silly I just witnessed. Sometimes I compliment random strangers on their awesome shoes, adorable toddler, or fancy umbrella.
Some people respond with a deer-in-the-headlights look and others simply ignore me. Fortunately, a lot of people enjoy the brief human interaction, and some hang around for an actual conversation when circumstances permit. I meet the darndest people in service queues, stores, coffee shops, libraries, and open-air markets. These brief and spontaneous collisions with strangers spark lots of ideas that give birth to some of the interviews and articles we print in The F-Suite.

Gah! My battery died this morning so after a AAA jump, I headed to O'Reilly Auto Parts at 9869 Two Notch for a new one. I left magazines for customers and the three awesome women who work there!

I wasn't expecting to have to buy myself a new car battery for Christmas, but at least I'm back on the road! 🚗

Ever have those times when you agreed to attend an event (party, conference, meeting, whatever) and when the date of the event arrives you don't really want to go? Yeah, we've all bailed with fake excuses to the hosts – or worse, not called to let the host know. That's inexcusable! Earlier this month I woke up not wanting to attend the event that was on my calendar, but I didn't have a way to let the host know. So, I put on my not-yoga pants and before I left the house, I decided I would look for surprises big and small that were awaiting me there. Then I drove downtown in the pouring rain knowing it wasn't going to be a good hair day. I probably talked with 20 to 25 people that day, all of whom surprised me in one way or another; most of them I'd never met before. From the person I met in the parking lot to the parking attendant I chatted with upon my departure, every single one of them was fun, informative, eager to speak with me, or wanted to introduce me to someone whom they knew would be a good connection for me. I came home much richer for having changed my attitude (and out of yoga pants). And the rain had let up, so I was greeted by sunshine when I headed for home. One negative thing I have to confess, however: It was indeed a bad hair day.
