Your Work As A Leader Will Be Tested, Senator Daniel Harps On The Pulpit

Otunba Gbenga Daniel, senator representing Ogun East and former Governor of Ogun State, in a soul-searching sermon at the Love of Christ Generation Church’s Family Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, April 21, urged public office holders to reflect on the reality that their time in office is finite and that they will ultimately be held accountable for their actions and decisions, whether they served with excellence or fell short of expectations, Apples Bite Magazine reports.

Speaking in a sermon titled; “The Test of Faith,” Senator Daniel urged leaders to exercise caution and integrity during their tenure, reminding them that their actions in office would ultimately speak for them. Drawing from recent events, he cited the ongoing hounding of a former governor after his tenur in office.

He said what they do in office will speak for them afterwards, using his own encounters with the EFCC as an example. That he voluntarily surrendered because he was sure he did not abuse the office. That Governors should stop living like God when they are in power, but to do everything they can to give the maximum happiness to the greatest number of people.

Senator Daniel pointed that his 11 years currible of trials and tribulation was his own test of fire and tribulation, from which he has come out and emerged victorious. He noted that people should be prepared to face their own tribulations and when they come out of it they have nothing else to fear again, just as he doesn’t have any fear.

He quoted the Biblical story of Job during his own trials, cited Abraham who looked for a child for several years and got one in his old age and he was again requested to bring that child for sacrifice and he obeyed, until God came to the rescue with a ram.

Amidst the turmoil, Senator Daniel revealed the unwavering support of his wife, Yeye Olufunke Daniel.

He recounted the moment he informed her of his arrest, only to be met with her resolute response: “Wherever they’re taking you, we’re going together!”

According to the former governor, Yeye Daniel’s steadfast support and unwavering faith were evident throughout the eleven-year trial, during which she refused to celebrate her own birthday until her husband was acquitted of all charges.

“Yeye said, ‘I’ll not celebrate any birthday until you’re set free. We live together, I know you’ll not touch state money; unless you are spending your money for the state. So whatever they do, God will save you.’

“So for those eleven years until last year when I was discharged of any crime, Yeye refused to celebrate her birthday,” the former governor revealed.

The well-attended birthday celebration not only honored Yeye Daniel’s milestone but also served as a testament to the enduring love, resilience, and solidarity shared between the esteemed couple, Senator Gbenga Daniel and Yeye Olufunke Daniel.

The former governor has admonished political leaders to be cautious and not allow the positions they occupy to get into their heads.

While taking his lessons from the book of Daniel, Chapter 3, Otunba Daniel cited the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, the three Jewish men thrown into a fiery furnace by Nebuchadnezzar II, King of Babylon for refusing to bow to the king’s image.

“The Bible told us that those people who actually obeyed the king to do evil got burnt. But for Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, the fiery furnace didn’t touch them, which amazed Nebuchadnezzar. Even the king later agreed that there is a son of God that is powerful than any other human being,” he stated.

The senator reminded the public office holders that their terms are tenured for a maximum of 8 years so they should be circumspect while holding office because their own day of reckoning and judgment too shall come.

“For me, I have no fears anymore because my own trials and tribulations had come and I passed the test,” Otunba Daniel said.

Not All Men Die!

Tribute of His Exc, The Senator Otunba Engr Gbenga Daniel, FNSE, FAEng on the Transition to Eternal Glory of His Exc Okwadike Dr. Chukwuemeka Pius Ezeife, CON, former Governor of Anambra State (1992-1993) delivered on Monday 15th of April, 2024 in Abuja*

Not All Men Die; Okwadike Chukwuemeka Ezeife was one of them. Few men were self taught, self made, Dr. Pius Ezeife (PhD Harvard), was one of them. He had no history of secondary school education, but he went on to become one of the best and brightest brains in Nigeria. If you are looking for an Ibo, Yoruba or Hausa man, I plead with you, look beyond Dr. Ezeife because he was, in reality, a Nigerian, sacrificing all for the country that he strongly believed in.

One of the last patriarchs of our nationhood is about to be interred. You might bury his earthly cloak but definitely not the ideals that he espoused and the ideas that represented; we might weep and mourn, but Dr. Ezeife is with the Ancient Triumphant speaking to us in all the ideals that he stood and fought for. Many people claim to be progressives today in a comfortable era, Dr. ezeife fought gallantly as a social democrat when it was sacrilegious to profess the ideal of progressivism, he was elected as a Governor under the banner of the Social Democratic Party in 1992 when only men could be counted and dangerously to do so. He never waivered in his conviction. He stood up for Nigeria when it was considered a taboo to speak for the downtrodden.

Few people here would perhaps know that at the point that I considered that most Nigerians are ill-educated about the politics and governance of our country and therefore sought to increase the level of education of our citizens to be able to make well informed political choices, I founded the Political Leadership and Training Institute, what is now known as the Political Academy (POLA), Dr. Ezeife was one of our major Resource Persons to discuss critical issues about our nation and continent with a view to finding lasting, effective and workable solutions and through which he became a member of our Institute's Advisory Board. One of his very incisive, and perhaps the last deliveries was on the 13th of September, 2020 even at that critical period of the COVID-19 pandemic, where he shared his knowledge on "Understanding Nigeria".

I shared a very close bond and affinity, in social, political and world perspectives with Dr. Ezeife.

Dr. Ezeife was one of the last consciences of our nation, traversing our ethnic divides sharing a strong hope that one day, just one day we might be able to build a Nation from the ruins of ethnic diversity and social cultural differences. He had friends cutting across all the divides, the old and the young, the rich and the poor.

According to Williams Shakespeare, "when beggars die, there are no comets seen, the heavens themselves blaze forth the death of Princes’
May the soul of His Exc Dr Chukwuemeka Ezeife rest in perfect peace.

Debola Daniel: AM I NOT HUMAN ENOUGH?

Being disabled often rolls over my spirit, leaving behind a trail of shattered dignity and forgotten humanity. Nowhere more so than in Nigeria. I have never been the type of person to make a fuss or complain about my disability. My approach has always been "laissez faire". Ultimately, it is what it is. It is a part of my identity and like everyone else, I have my days of self doubt and confusion as to how/if I fit in society. To be a disabled in nigeria is to be undesirable, unwelcome and unaccepted. As I've said before, it's a lonely, scary and isolated place.

Never has this been more true than it has ever been today where I faced the worst sort of public humiliation that I have ever experienced. To think that this happened at an international brand (KFC) at an international airport- Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos - is unthinkable.

I arrived at the airport as normal for my Virgin Atlantic flight to london. I'm a frequent flyer and I'm extremely familiar with all due processes at Murtala Muhammed Airport. Years ago, after all security and immigration formalities have been completed, I would normally go to the OASIS lounge to wait for my flight. For the past 3 years, the lift to the lounge has been out of service so I've often found solace in other establishments, sometimes lounges, sometimes restaurants such as KFC.

Today I chose KFC - what a colossal mistake. I entered the restaurant with 4 other travel companions consisting of my brothers and wife. The security personnel at KFC, Samuel, greeted me by name as I've been there multiple times. Just as we were about to sit, the lady at the till -who was apparently the manager - called out loudly, "NO
WHEELCHAIRS ALLOWED".

Our group paused in confusion, before my brother, Taiwo, asked what she meant. She refused to listen to reason and stood her ground that at KFC Murtala Muhammed branch, wheelchairs and wheelchair users of all shapes and sizes were not permitted in the premises and we should leave immediately.
My siblings and wife became instantly irate and proceeded to debate her position with her, ultimately cumulating in raised voices and strong verbal protests. If there's one thing I hate more than anything in this life is to create a scene. I detest it. I do not like to draw attention to myself and as such I began pleading with my people that we should just leave.

My wife took some video footage and my brothers took some pictures. There were at least 5 other witnesses at the scene, who tried to intervene as things unfolded.Eventually our party departed to another lounge upset and quite frankly pi**ed off.

Normally I would let these things slide but not today. When calmer heads prevailed, my wife and brother -Mayowa - went back and under the guise of buying some food and while audio recording, she questioned the lady again and the lady reiterated her position that the business does not allow wheelchairs into their premises. She stated that although she recently just transferred to that branch, it is something that has been drummed into
them. NO WHEELCHAIRS ALLOWED. It harkens back to dark periods in recent history...
No wheelchairs allowed...
No coloureds allowed....
No blacks allowed...

Today I felt less than human, like a guard dog not allowed into the house. Lonely and isolated.
I will continue to escalate this exponentially until I get a reasonable resolution and there's no stopping me. You cannot treat people this way. There are approximately 27 million Nigerians living with some form of disability. That's over 13% of the country. 1 in 6 people on the planet are disabled. You MUST NOT treat people this way.

So my question to KFC is simple. Does this represent your approach to disabled customers or will you be looking into this? Am I not human enough for KFC?

Mr Debola Daniel.
The Cub.

South West Development Commission Bill Passes 2nd Reading

The Senator representing Ogun East, Gbenga Daniel, Wednesday, took the helm in the Senate, leading the debate for the second reading of the Bill for an Act to Establish the South West Development Commission, 2023 (SB. 68). This important bill, co-sponsored by all Southwest Senators and spearheaded by Senate leader Opeyemi Bamidele, marks a significant step towards addressing the region's pressing developmental needs.

Initiated on August 1st, 2023, the South West Development Commission Bill responds to the demographic shifts and infrastructural challenges facing the region. With 21% of Nigeria's current population residing in the Southwest, projections indicate that by 2050, the region will host close to 50% of the nation's populace due to migration patterns. This anticipated population surge underscores the urgent need for strategic development initiatives to alleviate pressure on existing infrastructure.

The proposed South West Development Commission (SWDC) adopts a forward-thinking approach to bridge critical gaps in key sectors, thereby catalyzing progress and fostering sustainable development. Among its core objectives are initiatives to facilitate affordable land acquisition for agricultural purposes, enhance transportation networks through road and rail connectivity, address environmental concerns, and expand avenues for socio-economic advancement.

Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel emphasized the imperative of the SWDC in propelling collective prosperity and ensuring the region's competitiveness on the national stage. As a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE) and a Fellow of the Academy of Engineering (FAEng), Senator Daniel brings a wealth of expertise to the forefront of this legislative endeavor.

The debate underscores a unified commitment among Southwest Senators to prioritize the region's development agenda and chart a course towards a more prosperous and resilient future for all residents. With the stage set for further deliberations, the South West Development Commission Bill holds promise as a transformative mechanism for unlocking the region's full potential and fostering inclusive growth.

The bill was referred to Senate committee on Special Duties to report back in 4 weeks.

Senator Gbenga Daniel Champions Call For Progressive Education on International Education Day

Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel, a prominent lawmaker representing Ogun East, has marked the International Day of Education with a call for transformative changes in the educational landscape.

Emphasizing the power of education in breaking the chains of poverty and promoting global peace, Senator Daniel outlined his vision for a more progressive and impactful learning system.

International Education Day, observed annually on January 24th, serves as a global platform to acknowledge the importance of education in fostering peace, sustainable development, and human rights. Senator Gbenga Daniel took this occasion to address the pressing need for a comprehensive overhaul of the educational approach in Nigeria.

In his statement made available to the media, Senator Daniel stressed the importance of rethinking the process of knowledge acquisition, moving away from traditional methods towards a more value-added, problem-solving, and result-oriented model. He emphasized that education should be a catalyst for human progress and societal development, unlocking the untapped potentials within individuals.

"Education is about building minds and unlocking potentials," remarked Senator Gbenga Daniel. "To truly liberate our society from the shackles of poverty and achieve lasting peace, we need to refocus our educational efforts on producing individuals who can contribute meaningfully to societal growth."

The senator highlighted the necessity of aligning educational goals with real-world problem-solving skills. He called for a curriculum that instills critical thinking, creativity, and innovation, preparing students for the challenges of the modern world.

"By making a deliberate shift towards a value-added education system, we can ensure that our citizens are equipped not only with knowledge but also with the ability to apply that knowledge in practical ways," Senator Daniel stated.

Senator Daniel Appeals To Nigerians, Be Patient, President Tinubu Will Change The Narratives

Former Ogun State Governor and Senator representing Ogun East, Gbenga Daniel, on Sunday, appealed to Nigerians to continue to support President Bola Tinubu’s government, saying the administration will turn the country around for good.

Daniel said the President has the ability and capacity to entrench good governance in Nigeria, but one thing he knows about Tinubu is that “you must not take him for granted.”

The former governor said this during the 19th annual thanksgiving service held at Baptist International Worship Center, aka Abraham’s Tabernacle, in Sagamu, Ogun State.

The programme was themed “Thanking God for total victory, recovery and restoration.”

In his remarks, Daniel admitted that there are hardships in the land due to some of the policies introduced by Tinubu-led government.

He, however, assured that the country would be better for it in no long time.

He said “I have known Asiwaju (Tinubu) now for probably over 20 years and I know that he is capable, he is able. And I know that one thing you must not do is to take him for granted.

“I know that Asiwaju will turn around the fortune of this country and I am sure it will happen before long. If there are little little challenges, let’s just accept it that this is normally how things like this go. I urge you to continue to support him and his administration.”

He also urged stakeholders and residents to continue to support the state government, saying “Ogun will continue to be great.”

Delivering his sermon, the Bishop of Lagos North Diocese of the Methodist Church of Nigeria, Rt Reverend Gboyega Ohu, harped on thanksgiving and love for one another in the society.

The clergyman noted Daniel had bounced back politically after being “caged for 8 years,” and “there is nothing but to thank God for his life.”

The service attracted the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Ogun State, Ladi Adebutu, his father and Business mogul, Sir Kessington Adebutu; the immediate past High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Sarafa Tunji Ishola; daughter of the late sage, Dr Tokunbo Awolowo-Dosunmu; the Akarigbo and Paramount ruler of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Ajayi; the Olu of Ilaro and Paramount ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, among others.
