The City of Austin hosted a news conference to provide additional updates on the winter weather response at 10 AM Friday, February 3, with City Leadership. Mayor Watson admitted letting down the citizens of Austin and moving forward he is going to do better. Austin Energy GM, Jackie Sargent answered my question as to why the surrounding cities are not having power outages to the same magnitude as we are and what tools the other cities have that we lack. Sargent stated our vegetation is different than the other cities because it is dense and it takes longer to fix the outages. She did not give us a timeline on when everyone will have power including me. I have been without power since early Wednesday morning. Some of the media team seemed frustrated with the answers provided by Austin leadership. Update: Mayor Watson will give an update on the progress to declare a disaster declaration this afternoon at 3 PM. I will let everyone know the outcome of the afternoon news conference
