Canadian Athletes Now Fund's Monthly Donors are called Patrons of Sport because that’s exactly what they are! The year-round support that each monthly donor provides to CAN Fund is critical right now.

Recently 850 athletes applied to CAN Fund for direct financial support so they can afford what they need to train and compete for Canada including proper nutrition, coaching, equipment, travel to training camps and competitions and pay team fees. For the first time in CAN Fund history there is a summer and winter Games back to back within a year.

$10 or more a month - you choose! Automatic deductions will be made from your credit card each month and you can change the amount at any time. At the end of the year, you will receive a tax receipt for your total donation, along with a list of the names of the female athletes you have supported.

Join the Chippewas of Georgina Island for their Shining Water Paddle trip across Lake Simcoe! 🛶🛶🛶
The Chippewas will paddle for life around Lake Simcoe to heal the water and the water in our own bodies. The Anishinaabe word for water is Nibi. They will offer their prayers of healing and give thanks to the water and all it has given us. It is important we continue with that responsibility and pray for Lake Simcoe and all the waters. https://newmarket.snapd.com/events/view/1346188

This journey is healing for all humans - not just the Anishinaabe people or the community of Georgina Island. We all have an important obligation to protect the water animals/ the water beings, rocks and plants including the surrounding shorelines and waterways. We need to protect those gifts Nibi has provided us for many generations.

Azhoonyang or Shining Waters is the Anishinaabe name for Lake Simcoe, which refers to silver. All you need to do is look out at Nibi on a sunny day and see how appropriate the name is. The sparkle of shining water gleaming in each ray of the sun and in every ripple of the water.

Lake Simcoe is alive, and waiting for our healing messages, prayers and songs. Our bodies are made up of 80% of water. Water is more than simply a physical element, it’s a life force and is connected in a special way. Water is life!

On April 20, innovative and inspiring tabletop designs were showcased at Seneca’s annual competition, Inspired Spaces. This glamorous, one-of-a-kind production, creates a real-life learning experience for students. This year, they pivoted to a virtual format for the first time.

19 students were challenged to design an event, including developing a theme, sourcing the caterer, selecting the venue and more, infusing each tabletop creation with their unique concept.
Tabletops were captured in a photoshoot and presented by each student to over 100 online attendees. The evening concluded by recognizing the top three tabletops with an award ceremony. Industry members awarded Tricia Persaud gold, Maya Watson silver and Riry Nguyen bronze.

"Despite the current situation, working on this tabletop and participating in Inspired Spaces has challenged me and has given me a space to exercise my creativity,” said gold award winner, Tricia Persaud.

“I am incredibly grateful that the industry professionals recognized the skills I have developed in Seneca's Event Management - Creative Design program. This award would not have been possible without the support of my peers and the program's faculty.”

Inspired Spaces provides students with the opportunity to network with industry partners and event sponsors, Event Rental Group, International Live Event Association Toronto Chapter, Anna Wilson Art, Canadian Special Events Magazine and Lobby App, the evening’s online platform. While attendees could gain insight about each tabletop and its creator through the chat function.

Tabletops were designed by students from Seneca’s Event Management – Creative Design graduate certificate program. Inspired Spaces was supported by the Event & Media Production diploma program, Journalism diploma program, Photography diploma program, and Independent Music Production certificate program.

We do this by encouraging young people to challenge social norms, ask more of their educators, and stand up against bullying towards their 2SLGBTQIA+ peers. Discrimination takes many shapes, whether it’s based on race, age, disabilities, gender or sexuality, and these hateful beliefs stem into bullying and violence. While progress has been made towards removing these social barriers from our society, discrimination still persists.

So, every year on the second Wednesday of April people around the world are urged to put on a pink shirt and stand in solidarity with the 2SLGBTQIA+ community!
