I had the privilege of meeting legendary drum & bass producer Gary J. Robinson aka The Death Beats in person, when my daughter and I were visiting Cambridge University in April.

He was working on a track with Cassetter built around a vocal hook by Charley Young and thought there was space for another vocal.

So I riffed on the hook and came up with the simple yet direct, “Who do you think you are, wasting all my energy?” sung across two lines. My raw vocals sounded rather exposed and silly, so I threw them in an audio blender of sorts.

Gary said it was “very UK dnb.”

He said the same about the photo of me he included in the cover art. Me, on the cover! 😅 Never in a million years, or so I thought.
