Self-publishing a book can be a daunting task. There are so many moving parts and pieces, from writing the book itself to marketing and promoting it. But one of the most important aspects of self-publishing is establishing a routine and ritual around your writing process.
Why is this so important? Because self-publishing is essentially a business, and any successful business needs to have systems and routines in place in order to function properly. Plus, having a set writing routine will help you actually get the words down on the page!
So how do you go about establishing a self-publishing routine? Here are a few tips:
1. First, think about when you have the time to write. Are you a morning person or do you prefer to write at night? Do you have an hour or two every day that you can dedicate to writing, or are you only able to write on weekends? Once you know when you have time to write, block off that time in your schedule and make it non-negotiable.
2. Next, decide where you will write. Will you write at home, at a coffee shop, or some other location? Make sure that wherever you choose to write is comfortable and conducive to productivity.
3. Then, establish what your writing process will look like. Do you prefer to brainstorm first and then start writing, or do you just jump right in? Do you like to listen to music while you write, or do you prefer silence? Do whatever works for you, but be consistent with it.
4. Finally, set some goals for yourself. Whether it’s writing a certain number of words each day or completing a chapter each week, having tangible goals to strive for will help keep you on track.
Self-publishing can be a lot of work, but by establishing a routine and ritual around your writing process, you can make the task seem much more manageable. And who knows, you might even start to enjoy the process!
