Rest In Peace. One of our favorite actors has transitioned recently. Best known for his roles as Candyman and Commander Kern in Star Trek TNG. At 6'5" he was a commanding presence on screen and stage and his impassioned performances left indelible impressions on us all. He will be missed.

Hello everyone! I will be one of the panelists on this upcoming series in October. I will be discussing Fresh Pulp Magazine's work in science fiction and uplifting Black and POC voices in sciences and social sciences through the magazine. Please support us and this event by attending. It's free. Information about the event and sign up link below.

Space Science in Context (17–18 October, 2024) returns for its third year! SSiC is a FREE, cross-disciplinary conference on outer space and society - intended to bring together those across natural sciences, social sciences, humanities, and community work to tackle the big questions facing the field. This year SSiC’s theme is Justice in Action.

This year’s programme: Our live sessions are 17–18th October 2024; but if you’re busy at that time, don’t worry! All our speakers’ talks will be uploaded to the website the week before the live sessions, so you can engage with their thoughts on your own time beyond the designated days of the event.

We have a dazzling array of panellists giving pre-recorded talks and having live discussions over the two days. In addition to our usual flipped-classroom model, we have social sessions to meet and chat with others, film screenings, and Pacific/East Asia timezone-friendly sessions.

Our three panels this year are:

- Space Futures which investigates who imagines the future of outer space, how, and in what ways?

- Where Are They Now?, which revisits topics and speakers from the SSiC 2020 and SSiC 2023 conferences; and

- Communities of Practice where we look at organisations reshaping the practices of space science.

The conference also includes a film screening, and two online social spaces for networking and sharing ideas. Registering for the (free) conference gets you access to all of these events!

Accessibility statement: All of the pre-recorded speaker videos will have transcripts and closed captioning. The live event will take place over Zoom. We are seeking English-language CART for the live event; you can see which sessions have CART on the Programme Schedule. The live event will not be recorded.

Help Space Science in Content 2024 reach new audiences by passing this invitation along to friends, colleagues, communities and students you think might be interested in joining the conference.

Congratulations to one of the authors of "Revenge In Three" Laury Silvers: for advancing to the semi-finals of the Indie Novella Championship! We're so proud!

RAT CITY my Alt-Medieval Noir novella set in a medieval Muslim abolition city made it to the semi-finals of the SFINCs award. I'm humbled. I read reviews of the other books and they were all spectacular. I never thought I'd make it.

Why you probably won't like it:

Rat City is densely written, more a novel crammed inside a novella. It has a massively complex plot.

A heartbroken, but tough post-menopausal detective struggling with past betrayals.

A jinn saloon and brothel owner.

A non-utopic, yet working, abolition city without police.

A world reeling from ongoing plagues.

A richly told Muslim world.

All things the average reader is not looking for! But who am I except a writer who runs headlong into the stories the average reader is not looking for? Oh, Laury.

If you want to read RAT CITY, you can find it published with two other fantastic retellings of THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO in REVENGE IN THREE published by Fresh Pulp Magazine

REVENGE IN THREE: RAT CITY, THE PASHA OF TEXAS (by Jibril Stephenson), and THE SPATIAL CONDITION (by J. Austin Yoshino).
