Feeling the pressure to be ON this festive season? 🎄

Well the cool thing about being your own boss is, you get to make the rules.

Work when you want to. Create content when it best serves you. And take much needed breaks to spark your creativity when ever you want 💫

But the thing is, most of us feel pressured to be on 24/7 because you might miss “that one chance” to make a sale or book a client.

I thought the days of the hustle culture were coming to an end but over the last few weeks I’ve seen so many marketers say “you MUST be posting over the Christmas break or you’ll loose business”. Obviously this is paraphrased (they said it much more eloquently than that 😂)

Thing is, if you don’t want to post over Christmas… don’t.

Don’t feel the the pressure to just create more content for the sake of it. Stop adding to the noise and only create quality, relevant and important content for your audience.

Think about what your ideal client really needs from you over this time. Is it tips and how tos or is it silence? 🤫

If you’re dreading having to plan and schedule content over Christmas, take a step back and ask yourself “what value am I really providing at this time”.

Don’t just add to the noise.

I don't know about you, but I often get sucked into the comparison vortex 🌪where I'm comparing myself against people who have been doing this stuff for a lot lot lot longer than me. While it's great to get inspiration from these people, trying to compete against where they're at just isn't fair 👎🏼

Every business journey is different and what worked for someone else, may not work the same for you... and that's totally okay 👌🏼

One of the most empowering things you can do as a business owner is say NO 🙅🏼‍♀️

No to the projects you could do but really don't want to. No to the unpaid speaking gigs that are going to suck up too much of your time. No to the pick your brain coffee dates that exhaust you. No to all the other sh*t that you hate

But this simple two letter word can be so difficult to say so here are a few nice ways to say it (that won't make you feel sick 🤢)

It’s time to say goodbye 👋🏼

Not forever 🙊 but for a month.

I’m taking a little break from the ‘gram to hopefully come back refreshed and revitalised, ready to share ideas, build connections and spark conversations ✨

For a while now I’ve found Instagram to have become an unhealthy habit of mine, where every time I’d open my phone. I’d have to open the app to scroll for a few minutes only to feel drained, like I’m not doing enough 😫

I follow way too many coaches and marketing experts who are creating awesome content daily, that I feel like I just can’t keep up.

I think it’s the whole “keeping up with the Jones” pressure or something 🙄

Rather than “sticking to my own lane” I feel this overwhelming pressure to perform all the time, leaving me feeling misaligned and resentful to the platform.

Anyways… with less energy and effort going into creating content here, I’ll be focusing on my students, YouTube channel, email list and Facebook group (find links to these in my bio) 💕

I don't know about you, but Easter snuck up on me real quick this year 🐰 The first quarter is done and dusted, and we're already at the end of April!

And looking back… the last YouTube video I posted was on 6 February 😳

Which feels really odd because over the past 4 and a bit years on YouTube, I've always been crazy consistent. Even when Elliot was born in 2020, I was still posting fortnightly thanks to batched content I'd prepared 😉

Consistency has been something I was SO damn proud of.

Even in those early days when I'd get 20 views on a video thanks to my 100 subscribers 🙊 I'd still post every single week!

But I guess it's that commitment that meant taking a 2.5 month break meant my channel didn't suffer as I'd always feared it would. I mean views were down a bit, but my subscriber growth and income from Google ads stayed pretty consistent!

So… why'd I take a break from YouTube? 🤔

With the combination of client work, re-launching my course and sickness… Something had to give!

But now I'm backkkkk 👏🏼👏🏼 I've just posted a new video on my channel (click the link in my bio)

When I was 25 I was called “bossy” at work.

Not to my face… but my colleague told me a contractor we’d hired called me bossy because I wanted a project done a certain way.

Instead of being seen as a leader, clever or assertive… a middle aged man called me “bossy” because I wasn’t happy with him doing a mediocre job.

I called him out and his response was that I was “bossy”.

But the thing is… I just wanted to do my best. I’ve always been eager to learn and to impress others. I push to do things more efficiently and strategically because I care.

If I was a man this would be seen a great skill set! But as a woman, I am seen as “bossy”. Maybe you’ve experienced something similar? 🙄

Today is International Women’s Day and while I’ve seen a bunch of posts about how great women are (because we are😉)… the theme for 2022 is which is about starting conversations around gender equality.

A world free of bias, stereotypes and discrimination. A world that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated. (words from internationalwomensday.com)

We all have biases, it’s natural. But where it’s harmful is when we continue to project these onto our tiny humans.

As a boy mum, it’s my responsibility to reinforce the values of gender equality 💙 I want Elliot to believe that women and men should be treated the same. I want him to be empowered to stand up for women and to call out other men.

While comments like “women belong in the kitchen” are becoming irrelevant, I still hear people still say “he runs like a girl” “boys will be boys” or “boys are better at maths” which are all contributing to the idea that “boys are better than girls”.

For me… Today is about more than just celebrating each other’s achievements, it’s about making a pledge to call out inequality in our communities (home, work, friendship groups etc). It’s about being self-aware enough to know when what you’re saying or doing might go against your belief in equality and make the changes to correct this.

🚫 Don't fill them with images (especially stock ones!)
🚫 Don't over complicate your message

👉🏼 The simpler the better 👈🏼

As a service business... selling your offer requires different tactics to those of our product based biz friends.

An image of beautiful stationary, homewares or clothing makes total sense for an e-com brand to include in their email newsletter but for your biz... design could just be a distraction 🙄

You're selling an outcome or a transformation, which needs you to share why (and how!) you’re the expert!

While photos and beautiful imagery are great on Instagram and on your website… always sending out highly designed emails might be doing your brand a disservice 😳

In fact, it might send you straight to the promotions tab on gmail which we DO NOT WANT!

Instead focus on telling a story and building a picture of what it'd be like to work with you using words and these 5 tips
