He is also the drum tech for REO Speedwagon. Over the years the classified sheet grew into a full color quarterly magazine with articles written by many

vintage and custom drum experts. John sold the business to Bill Ludwig III in 2005, and Bill sold it in 2008 to current owner George Lawrence, who resides in Memphis TN. The magazine was converted to a monthly digital publication in 2012 and now boasts 30,000 subscribers.

Our Story

Not So Modern Drummer was founded in 1988 by John Aldridge as a classified ads publication for his friends in the vintage drum collectors community. John is THE engraver of metal drums for many drum companies. He is also the drum tech for REO Speedwagon. Over the years the classified sheet grew into a full color quarterly magazine with articles written by many vintage and custom drum experts. John sold the business to Bill Ludwig III in 2005, and Bill sold it in 2008 to current owner George Lawrence, the drummer for the band Poco and former owner of George’s Drum Shop. The NSMD office and warehouse is located in Nashville, Tennessee. The magazine was converted to a monthly digital publication in 2012 and now boasts 30,000 subscribers.
