Founded on March 28th, 2014, the Never Ending Random Discussion was a panel type podcast that brought 4-6 hosts together to discuss just about anything going on in the world that they saw fit. Each host brought an article or few with them, and the crew would discuss them each week. Never Ending Random Discussion (NERD for short) ran for several months under The Drakkarium
leadership, with a diverse rotation of many Geek guests. On September 6, 2014, the NERD aired it’s last episode under the original format, from within the same organization. It’s primary host, Andrew Dresden, spent nearly a year with The Drakkarium and both the NERD, and the Geek Of All Trades begrudgingly on the back burner. Circumstances had made that a necessity, but just like the futility of all things in humanity, circumstances are fleeting. It was nearly the exact same time the following year that Andrew, joined by John Zander, started breathing life back into The Drakkarium. They started a new video series with the partnership of Drakkarium’s primary writer, Brandon Ray, called Visual Narrative Imperative; a short run series discussing the film world. That show attracted the attention of professional acquaintance, Steven Bateman, and the three of them started working closely together on many secret projects, namely one that remains a secret to this day. It wasn’t long before Steven, John, and Andrew realized in order to properly execute their plans, they needed a more formal business relationship. That epiphany lead to what is now known as Pants Pending Studios, and the beginning of a truly key close friendship between Andrew and Steven. With Pants Pending now picking up speed, and becoming more and more real, Andrew and John set about formulating a plan to bring out a new and improved NERD. Andrew and John, with the invaluable help of fellow Drakkarium teammates Amanda and James, made a few key investments. Then with a renewed vigor, and a dramatic improvement in equipment, the NERD returned bigger and better than ever, airing its return episode on January 22, 2016. Conveniently, it was also the 22nd episode of the NERD that aired that day. It’s purpose had changed, no more were they discussing current events, now the show rang much more true to their name, and had become just a random discussion. A handful of months was poured into the evolution of the show, and when the dust finally settled, the NERD had a solid foothold at the top of the charts within Pants Pending Studios (that would come to change later, when The Darkest Corner stole the number one spot). They had finalized a dual host format, Andrew and Steven, and they rotate many various entertainers and professionals through their guest chairs. They’ve brought an uninterrupted weekly show, full of consistent comedy and intrigue. There are now countless recurring jokes and segments that the listeners have grown to love and expect. There are several story arcs that have been birthed inside the NERD universe, including that of their mascot, Doctor Donut, his henchman Jeremy, and his nemesis, Captain Coffee. The NERD has come to be a place for surprise stories, education, comedy, interesting guests, and it also serves as a central hub for the network. It is a show that gives you a good amount of behind the scenes access around Pants Pending Studios. Hosts from all over the network regularly come and add brevity and their own unique styles to this wonderful cacophony of a series. You can find new episodes aired every Friday, and Patrons enjoy unedited early access to each new episode 2 days before the public release.
