Immigration Stories Episode #4 :How Do you Decide on your Country of Immigration?

27/05/2024

Ghanaians want business, growth, development and advancement but they're always associating nearly everything local with evil?

Previously it was the cowries

-names
-beads
-language
-Spirituality
-hair
-local produce or products
-indigenous medicine/therapy

What at all is evil about beads....? How did that get to be associated with charm, witchcraft, juju etc?

If you continue to do that to yourself, local products and produce, where will the development and employment generation come from?

Why won't the cost of living keep rising?

Why won't you keep relying on foreign goods and currencies?

How will local products and technology ever advance in such an environment?

Think about it! What country on earth rely largely on foreign goods and services, cultures?

Food for thought!

GHANA:POLITICS OF DESTRUCTION:

why do people in Ghana use politics to destroy?

Some use it to destroy the reputation, dignity and the image of others. Others use it to destroy people's property. Yet they claim they want to build the country.

I heard the wife of the vice president and his brother used the Ghanaian military to destroy the personal property of someone who is connected to their political opponent.

How true is this? If true how is that wise? How can such a person and/or her spouse be claims of wanting to build that very country?

How can we keep destroying the people we need to build that country? How can we encourage good, talented and business people to come and invest or build in such a country?

You be the judge.

Please share your opinion like a reasonable person. NO INSULTS as they're neither warranted or constructive. Also, please avoid politicization and make a real construct contribution.

Thank you.

UNDERSTANDING THE RIGHT TO FREE SPEECH :

People should understand that the right to free speech and publication is not ABSOLUTE.

This means that right has limits.

First of all, freedom of speech, expression, thought and conscience is not available in every country. It is typically granted by the so called civilized democracies.

That means that in autocratic countries, freedom of speech may be extremely limited or not even be available at all. In such oppressive States, including Iran, Saudi Arabia, China and even many African countries, such as Uganda and Rwanda, you could be arrested, tortured and even be killed for just expressing an unfavourable opinion about a prominent person such a a head of state or Member of Parliament.

In democratic States where freedom of speech, expression, media etc is granted, it can be limited based on following grounds :

1. Public order
2. Public morals
3. National interest or security.

It can also be balanced with the right to family and privacy.

Therefore be mindful in your when writing a post, speaking in public or making certain utterances. You cannot infringe on the rights of others or undermine national interest or security under the pretext of exercising your right to free speech.

You should also be careful when such an exercise concerns a public official or national interest or SECURITY. Failure to respect such limits can lead to lawsuits or very serious consequences.

It can cost you money, employment, other future opportunities or serious bodily harm and even your deaths.

Many individuals and journalists die each year for their publications or utterances.

It is not ABSOLUTE!!!!

Food for thought.

Powers of Attorney: What are They and Why are They Important?

INDIGENOUS SPIRITUALITY AND FREEDOM OF RELIGION
Does the desecration and destruction of sacred sites violate indigenous people's rights to practice their religion?
Does the desecration of indigenous religious sites different from destroying a church or a mosque or religious sites of other faith groups?
Legal experts argue that indigenous spiritual traditions are entitled to the same legal protection as other faith groups under the freedom of religion and belief provided in Article 18 of the ICCPR and national constitutions.

Colonial Legacies on Indigenous Religion:

"Whereas some faiths worship the divine in a building, [I]ndigenous
peoples often worship the land as divine."

The above has transcended beyond recognition and impacted the religious and other legal rights of indigenous people across the globe.

According to University of Ottawa Law Professors Bakht and Collins, "while ... courts comprehend the significance of church buildings, sacrifice, and prayer, they often fail to grasp the sacredness of land for [I]ndigenous peoples."

Have you ever wondered why the Europeans looked down on the veneration of mother earth and other natural environment as sacred sites but recognize the human made buildings?

Why does it even make make to venerate a human made building like a church or mosque but not natural sites? Was it because they wanted our natural resources?

Was it because they loved our timber, minerals? A natural site and human building which one needs to be venerated and protected?

Was so we would serve as a market for manufactured goods?

After we bought into the colonial ideas, what has become of our natural environment? Are we better off now than we were generations ago?

Food for thought!!! Be wise!!! Free yourself from mental slavery?

THE RIGHTS AND FREEDOMS OF INDIGENOUS PEOPLES

Article 5 of the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) states that “Indigenous peoples have the right to maintain and strengthen their distinct political, legal, economic, social and cultural institutions, while retaining their right to participate fully, if they so choose, in the political, economic, social and cultural life of the State”.

The above provision indicates that indigenous communities can be considered as self-governed communities or ‘states’ within states.

This seems to be the case of the Ashantis especially during the colonial times and even now, the indigenous people of Canada, the Americas, Australia and New Zealand.

Also in Canada, Quebec is a State or nation within Canada.

Subject for reflection.
