A kitchen missive from one @lou__turner! Listen to the sound of butter browning on her new song “Ride The Melting,” on our forthcoming compilation MEASURE POUR & MIXTAPE: MUSIC FOR COOKING. In the song, which was inspired by a Robert Frost quote, LT confesses her recent approach to the domestic processes of cooking, writing, and living, singing, “I’ve been harvesting without taking, reaping without grieving, yielding to the unseen.” 🧈

BELLS - "Union (demo)" (Teaser)
BELLS, led by multi-disciplinary artist Kandice Holmes and whose work you may know from their collaboration with Kikagaku Moyo / 幾何学模様 on “Gypsy Davey,” offers a stunning benediction for communion—in both a spiritual and collective sense—on their contribution to MEASURE, POUR & MIXTAPE, “Union (demo).”
Holmes writes, “‘Union (demo)’ sings a blessing over our diverse community, made up of people seeking sanctuary from war and oppression, alongside those serving through prayer and practically on Greek Island, Lesvos. After lockdowns, we found life in practicing simple rhythms. Sharing the bread, and the wine, for renewal and redemption.”
In their music, BELLS expands from solo performance to a sprawling psychedelic-folk and experimental ensemble. Based between London and Greece, the name is symbolic of the desire for their music to ring out peace, justice, call people together, and raise up praise. Kandice’s prophetic lyricism takes inspiration from the wisdom and poetry of the Psalms, ancient songs that speak of hope despite the circumstance.

A few weeks ago, @hey_emhilly caught Michael Hurley out in Portland at his favorite haunt the @laurelthirstpub, playing “Clatskanie”—the previously unreleased track he contributed to our forthcoming MEASURE, POUR & MIXTAPE: MUSIC FOR COOKING. The song is an ode to the small Oregon town of the same name and birthplace of writer Raymond Carver, as well as two of Snock’s favorite foods. 🎣🥧
MEASURE, POUR & MIXTAPE will be out December 1 and you can pre-order a cassette or digital download now on our Bandcamp (link ⬆️).
