History
Argot was created in London in 1972 as a discreet publishing conduit for record company executives, particularly those employed and paid on traditional electronics industry scales by giants of the time, Decca, EMI, Philips and Siemens. Since music publishing royalties were evenly divided between publishers of “A” and “B” sides, it had become customary for successful recording artists to sh

ow their appreciation to these underpaid executives by assigning publishing of occasional “B” sides to their personal companies. As the 1970’s progressed and leading radio and television presenters began to establish their own small music publishing operations, the service steadily expanded until, by the mid 1980’s, it was regularly facilitating the publication of magazine and newspaper articles by executives from other industries. Whether prohibited by employment contracts, confidentiality agreements, conflict of interests, or innocent modesty, Argot gave experts, primarily from the advertising, media, automotive, political and entertainment arenas the opportunity to anonymously express opinions and share wisdom.
