Overview
Transitioning to adulthood is a challenging journey for everyone. Youth with HIV face additional challenges as they navigate from pediatric HIV care to adult services. In order to stay engaged in care, youth with HIV must learn unique skills for managing their own involvement in HIV treatment services. Providers can facilitate this transition by making use of evidence-based strategies to effectively support youth with HIV during this vulnerable time.

Join us on Thursday, March 10, 2022 at 11am EST for a discussion on how providers can ensure that patients are not lost to care when they transition to the adult HIV care world. This webinar will highlight the Transition Program at Children's National Hospital in Washington, DC as a model program that empowers young adult HIV patients to bond with their new adult care team and fully engage in care.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this session, you will be able to...
Give an overview of the Children's National Hospital Transition Program.
Identify challenges and barriers that youth with HIV face when transitioning to adulthood.
Identify the skills that youth with HIV need to practice in order to stay engaged in care while transitioning to adulthood.
Describe strategies providers can use from the Evidence-Based Transition Program Protocol to support youth with HIV.

The American justice system spoke truth to power for George Floyd, and sent a clear message that we must value Black lives. Under the guise of police authority, Chauvin knelt on George Floyd’s neck for 9 minutes and 29 seconds without justification and killed him. The defendant’s attempts to excuse his lack of human decency and disregard the right to live of a Black man was to no avail, justice has been served.
The conviction, although elevating the worth of a Black man, will not bring back George Floyd, and does not make up for the past sins of a nation. Now let’s acknowledge systemic racism that allows these murders to continue to happen. Put an end to making it a crime to be Black and brown. Stop white washing history and know the beginning of why police were formed after slavery ended. It’s time to invest in Black communities, to enact health equity, and create opportunities to once and for all put an end to white supremacy and a long history of oppression. It’s not enough to not be racist, the time is now to be anti-racist.
